Leonard Cobrin

1920 - 2018

Leonard Cobrin, a retired Philadelphia realtor passed away February 19, 2018. Leonard was born at home on January 26, 1920 in the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia. He was one of four siblings and moved to Wynnefield Pennsylvania two years later where he would spend the majority of his life with the exception of three years which he spent overseas. He attended Overbrook High School and in 1942 entered the Army Reserve. Mr Cobrin shipped out the following year and was stationed in Salpan in the Pacific Theater for the duration of World War II. Upon his exit from the service in 1946, he worked for his father's real estate company, Benjamin Cobrin and Company. Later that year he became president of the business which he would lead until its sale in 1992. He stayed on as a consultant until his retirement in 2008. In his 60 years in the business, he was known as a staunch advocate for equal opportunity housing. One of his proudest accomplishments as a realtor was his role in helping to create a relationship between the Pennsylvania real estate industry and the Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Human Relations Commissions. In addition to his term as the president of the Greater Philadelphia Association of Realtors in 1969, he also served on the executive board of the Pennsylvania Association of Realtors. He is remembered as a patron of the arts with a special interest in musical theatre. Mr. Cobrin is survived by his son Jeffrey and his partner of 32 years Sondra Gittis as well as her 3 daughters, 3 son-in-laws and 7 grandchildren.There will be a memorial held at a later date.
