Marjorie Boyles Obituary

Marjorie Faye Boyles, age 95, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Trustbridge Hospice Care of Palm Beach in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Faye was born on November 12, 1927, to the late Gladys Hughey Smith and Edward Smith, on a farm outside Madison, Florida, a small town 50 miles east of Tallahassee. She was the third child of the family, with two older brothers.

Faye was educated in the Madison County Public School system and was valedictorian of her high school graduating class. She graduated from Florida State University in 1949, and taught chemistry and biology at Leon County High School in Tallahassee from 1949 to 1952. She married William J. Boyles in 1949, and the couple moved to Ft. Lauderdale in 1952. She taught 7th -grade science for one year and then retired from teaching to raise two daughters. During that time, she was a 4-H leader for more than 10 years, mentoring numerous girls in a wide variety of 4-H activities and projects.

In August 1973, Faye returned to the education system as a secretary at South Plantation High School; three months later, in November 1973, she was promoted to Media Specialist. She received her master's degree from Florida Atlantic University in 1978. She was the director of the South Plantation Media Center from then until she retired in January 2005. During her tenure she served as Inservice Facilitator, helping to apply the changes in technology to the way teachers teach, and working with Student Government members on various projects such as Operation Shoebox and Hurricane Charlie relief. Her greatest accomplishment, and the one of which she was the most proud, was the establishment of the Future Teachers Scholarship, which was renamed the Faye Boyles Future Teachers Scholarship when she retired.

Faye also was a very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ft. Lauderdale, serving in many capacities over the years. Any time she saw a job that needed to be done or a problem that she could solve, she was willing to take the responsibility to get things done. For many years she grew and maintained the palms that were in the front of the church. Later she served on the Altar Guild and was president of the women's club.

Faye is survived by her daughter Carolee Boyles (Richard Marshall), grandson Chris Sprenkel, and a multitude of dear and loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and former students. She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Boyles and her daughter Susan Boyles Potter.

Services for Faye will be on Friday, January 6. We will meet at Lauderdale Memorial Park, 2001 SW 4th Avenue, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33315, at 10 AM for an interment service. Then we will go to Trinity Lutheran Church, 11 SW 11th Court, Ft. Lauderdale, 33315 for a celebration of her life. Please come dressed in joyful colors (no black) to celebrate the life of this amazing woman. In accordance with Faye's wishes, please do not send flowers, but make a donation to the Faye Boyles Future Teachers Scholarship at South Plantation High School, 1300 SW 54th Avenue, Plantation, Florida, 33317, attention: Julia Kasper.

As the "heart and soul" of the Paladin Family the Plantation Mayor and City Council proclaimed January 25, 2023 as "Marjorie Faye Boyles Day" and the community responded: students, teachers, friends and family. Her wish was to have donations sent to South Plantation High for the Future Teacher Scholarships she established when she retired.
