Judge Grossman was a wonderful person whose kindness and caring should be emulated by all. He showed me the utmost genuine respect from my earliest days as an attorney at a time when women attorneys were few at the courthouse. His legacy goes far beyond the courtroom. My deepest condolences to his family. May you find peace and joy in your happy memories of a life well lived.

Mel was one of the finest judges I ever appeared before. Mel was chair of the Lamar Warren Law Library Committee for decades and I was HIS vice chair for the same number of years. I emphasize HIS
vice chair because we never had elections. He simply
appointed me because we had no bylaws. Despite the apparent indifference of most judges and lawyers to a law library in the courthouse, Judge Grossman recognized the importance to the People of Broward County in having access to the law. For decades, we fought with other agencies for decades over the amount of space allocated to the Library. We fought the view of many that computerization and the amount of law freely available on the Internet rendered law books unnecessary. Notwithstanding
the barrage of advertising by the computer industry that argued implicitly that Everyone owned a computer, there are still significant numbers of County residents without access to computers, or
instruction in how to use them to solve legal problems..
I probably won as many cases in front of Mel as I lost. i always felt that he approached every case with an open mind. Because Mel had jurisdiction over those lacking capacity, he was especially mindful and creative in making sure they were safe. Although there was no statute giving him authority to require certain actions to be taken, Mel required every guardian to report on the care of a ward following the passage of a. hurricane. I'll never forget that action as just one example of how much HE cared for the helpless.

Mel was a wonderful and wise judge. You might not win your case or motion before him, but you never left the courthouse feeling your arguments had not been fairly and fully considered. Rest in peace Mel

I first met Judge Mel in 1988 as a staff attorney for the 17th Judicial Circuit Court. For a short period of time I was lucky enough to be assigned to his division and from that moment on, I knew that I had a lifetime friend. Once I went into private practice, I appeared before him many times, and after the "court business" was finished, he always took time to ask about me, my family, my practice and my life. A man of superior intellect and dedication to his profession, he was also a deeply caring man, a devoted husband and a father and grandfather adored by his children and grandchildren. My deepest condolences to Nicki and the entire Grossman family - he was one of a kind, and you were so blessed to have him in your lives as long as you did. Love to you all.
