Michael Pecora Obituary

Pecora Pecora, Michael, 51, one of the nation's most well respected, and highly recognized experts and authors in the banquet business, died Tuesday, April 29, 2003. Pecora, a native of South Florida, was considered a "giant in the banquet/catering industry". He was the founder of Signature Catering, and creator of Signature Gardens and Signature Grand, the largest banquet centers in South Florida. Both businesses were for social and corporate events, and set the standard for enabling thousands of couples to afford sophisticated, highly upscale weddings. Pecora had recently completed a book, "Behind the Scenes; The Insiders Guide to Planning Your Wedding", which has been described as the most comprehensive resource in the wedding banquet business. A graduate of Miami Killian Senior High School, and Florida International University, School of Hospitality Management, Pecora was a quiet, unassuming gentleman with a keen sense of business acumen. In addition to his success in the business arena, Pecora was actively involved in a number of philanthropic ventures. Last year, The Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Greater Miami named Pecora to the organization's Hall of Fame. He is survived by his beloved wife of twenty-three years, Arlene; his mother, Mary Pecora of Broward County; and two sisters, Maggi Pecora of Tallahassee, and Marcy Gordon of San Francisco. He will also be greatly missed by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. His late father was Emil "Mickey" Pecora, a South Florida entrepreneur. A funeral mass will be held Monday, May 5, 2003, at twelve noon at St. David Catholic Church, 3900 South University Drive, Florida, followed by a reception at the Signature Grand. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Greater Miami.

Dear Arlene,

As you know, Michael joined our company shortly after turning 20, and he stayed with MADAN for seven years thereafter. I, and my three children, loved him as though he were my oldest son and their oldest brother. The fun we all had together, makes his tragic loss a special loss to us. During this very difficult time, may God grant you the peace, wisdom and strength to hold up under the strain. Our entire family sends you our love and blessings. We all loved Michael very much and mourn his loss.

My sincere condolences to The Michael Pecora Family for their loss. Since 1985, Mr. Pecora was exposed to the many volunteer endeavors of our diversified population. He was interested in joining efforts and since then, he gave-back a great deal of support and participation to the different groups from our area. He participated and sponsored Town Meetings with leadership, neighbors, the media and institutions from the Kendall and South Miami area.

Many memorable and charitable activities were supported by Mr. Pecora at Signature Garden, to reach volunteers' goals. Among them, the Tropicana Bash to benefit the Bone Marrow Transplant Project;

concerts and dinners in support of the Arts; Gala Events to benefit the sick and the needy; funds for scholarship from civic and professional organizations.

We will remember Mr. Pecora in our prayers.

I will respectfully attend the Mass Services at St. David.

God is Kind and Merciful and will Grant His Peace to everyone affected by this tragedy.

Sorry to here about Michael's passing. He called me a few weeks ago to tell me my father had stopped by Signature Grand and he gave him a hard time about me leaving the business. We talked for a few minutes and he sounded good. If there is anything I can do to help please let me know.
