Rick Allen Obituary

Allen, Frederick "Rick" George, Born Jan. 6, 1952, Rick peacefully began his new journey on July 11, 2012, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Westchester, NY, he moved with his family from Larchmont, NY, to Miami Beach in 1967. He attended Mamaroneck High School, Arch Bishop Curley High School, and the University of Miami. Rick's love of the water began at a very early age spending summers at Larchmont Yacht Club, from learning to sail to getting his first Whaler. He became a national champion boat racer in 1976 in addition to racing cars. He was also a competitive kart racer, a licensed pilot, scuba diver, and an avid saltwater angler. Rick was a member of the Coral Reef Yacht Club and the Marine Industry Association of the Treasure Coast, past president and member of the Marine Industry Association of South Florida and the South Florida Outboard Club, and he produced the Stuart Boat Show. In the short time Rick was with us he moved fast and enjoyed life to the fullest. He is survived by his father, Skip Allen, and stepmother, Helen Allen (preceded in death by his mother, Joanne Allen); his brothers, Skip (Michele) and George; his sisters, Cathryn Allen-Zubizarreta, Jody (Steve) Lewis and Paige (Tom) Conlan; his nieces, Charlotte Allen-Zubizarreta, Alexandra Allen, Ashley Allen, Christina Lewis, and Calli Lewis; his nephews, Corey Lewis and Michael Allen; and countless friends and colleagues. A memorial service will be held at 3PM Thursday, July 19, at Church by the Sea in Ft. Lauderdale, followed by a celebration of Rick's life at the Lauderdale Yacht Club.

I never had to guess how Rick felt about life and living. Rick put 110% into what ever he did. I try each day to have his drive and enthusiasm , that will never leave my thoughts. For that I am gratful to have known Rick.

It has been one month today since you left to go be with Mom, It just doesn't seem real. And to everyone that has signed his guest book, I thank you. Sometimes I come to this site just to read your words, and it makes me feel a tad better. Thank you.

Rick,
You were a brother I chose.
Thanks for the rides to Curley HS in Miami from Miami Beach.
The boat racing campaign around the South and races at Miami Marine Stadium were something else. It was a good change for me after graduating Notre Dame. You had a 1 man support staff and fledgling mechanic when I could get free, plus many others joined in. The Nationals were always something. Eufala, Alabama
You looked at how to make things happen and they did. Your problem solving was an art.
"A faint heart never won a fair maiden." - and you were right.
There were still things to do, but you have another stage.
Sorry I had not seen too much of you these last years.
It was always good to see you, and there usually was something to be done, often enough it was to plan a party and then Party.
You are a good man, Rick.

Condolences to all of the Allen Family.

See ya.

I think Rick Allen was one of the first people I met when I moved my business to Fort Lauderdale and I don't think I ever saw Rick that he did not have a big smile on his face. Rick was excited about life, excited about his family, and excited about the marine industry. He had that contagious enthusiasm that is so rare in life today. When you saw him walking down the dock you knew it was going to be a fun encounter. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in his family.

What wonderful times we had.. Rick was always so much larger than life And never failed to put a grin on your face. He will be missed. It had been many years that we fell out of touch, I'm so glad we could reconnect recently, as if that intermezzo of 20 odd years was nonexistent. We loved you, Rick, goodbye.

I never had a chance to know "big" Rick, as we affectionately called him, during my adult life. However, he was close friends of my parents and hence he was like an uncle to me as a child growing up. I have so many wonderful memories of his outgoing and fun spirit. He was the first one to take us to a sushi restaurant (before it was trendy), my mom and I used to pick gardenia's off his gardnenia bush whenever we'd visit his home on the water, and I remember many fun outings, gathering and adventures we all went on. I remember his go-kart crash and my dad keeping the mangled metal in his workshop. I remember seeing the dented flack jacket and scraped helmet that saved his life and visiting him at his home while still in a hospital bed. Very unfortunately, the family lost contact and I only wish I could've let him know as an adult how much he lives in my memories as such a wonderful and bright individual. I'm extremely saddened by his passing and wish he knew how much I remember of him as large part of my childhood. See you on the other side Big Rick!

As we prepare to say goodbye to Rick my thoughts and prayers are with the Allen Family. May you stand in unity and your memories of the good times shared bring you back to a simpler day. Personally I will always treasure the laughs I shared with Rick, his quick wit, electric smile, and genuine care. Rick had a jolly presence and was always ready with a story that was sure to either make you feel good or ponder your thoughts. No matter the story he always managed to wash it down with a hardy chuckle.

May his spirit and chuckle live on…

Rick was so wonderful to me and even helped me at the Stuart Boat Show take down my booth, when my mom was took a turn for the worse in a hospital in Palm Coast, where I was living at the time. I will never forget how he just looked at me and said go and be with her..I will take care of your booth and have someone be there for you for the rest of the show. Rick was one-of-a-kind and we will all miss him dearly.
He is being remembered in Masses being said at St. Anthony's Church in Fort Lauderdale this week.

My dear friend Rick Allen, may have lost his battle with cancer, but he won a special place in my heart for being the most genuine, caring, persevering man I have ever met. Many will remember him as having produced the Stuart Boat Show with a professional savvy and infectious spirit that can never be duplicated. I was captivated by his passion for promotion which was only exceeded by the love he had for life and the people in it! I will miss him for a very long time and cherish him even longer. My love and prayers go out to his father and family. Rick was your biggest fan; he spoke of you often with so much admiration, appreciation, and love. God bless you all.
