Robert Geikie Obituary

Geikie, Robert H., 87, of Boca Raton died peacefully at his home in Boca Raton, FL on March 31, 2008, surrounded by his immediate family, following a long illness. He was the loving husband of the late Ruth M. (Foley) Geikie; brother to the late Jack Geikie and Reta Saporiti of MA; loving father to David Geikie of NY, Janet Rodgers of FL, and Lyn Rice of CT; grandfather to Erik, Peter and Andrew Rodgers of FL, Heather Jordan of MD, and Lauren Geikie of NY; great-grandfather to Brady Rodgers of FL and uncle to Gayle Moore of MA. Robert was born on April 16, 1920 in Chatham, Canada. He was raised and educated in Boston. He graduated from Boston University in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army in Europe in the 318th Infantry Regiment, 88th Division during World War II. He had the distinguished honor of receiving the Belgian Cross for his service in World War II. After the war, Robert served in the Massachusetts National Guard until 1960. He married Ruth Foley in 1946. They moved to Wellesley and lived there with their children until 1960 when he was transferred to New York by his employer. Robert served as a credit manager and accountant for Jordan Marsh, Gertz and Willoughby's. He was employed as an accountant by the Village of Rockville Centre, NY until his retirement in 1988. He and Ruth moved to Boca Raton, FL in 1990. Robert enjoyed being active in his community. He served on the board of his homeowner's association and was the Captain of the Citizens Organized Patrol at Lakes at Boca Raton. He enjoyed reading, discussing politics, and watching baseball and football games, but his greatest love was watching his grandchildren play sports. A funeral service will be held at Richard Davis Funeral Home in Manomet, MA, followed by church services at the Second Church of Plymouth in Manomet, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Hospice by the Sea, 1531 W. Palmetto Park Rd., Boca Raton, FL 33486. Babione Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 561-395-8787

We remember Robert so well. He was the first neighbor to welcome us to our home over 30 years ago. He gave us some info about installing a well which we did. He was a true friend.
