Robert Hutchens Obituary

Hutchens, Robert Eugene, of Boca Raton, FL went to be with the Lord March 2, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sarah; his children, Reed Hutchens (Susan), of Boca Raton, FL, Robert E., Jr. (Ellen) of Atlanta, GA, and Anne Gottfried (Larry) of Coral Springs, FL; his brother, Thomas Dunn Hutchens (Nancy) of Sapphire, NC; his sister-in-law, Martha Hutchens of Murray, KY; his sister-in-law Alba Jennings of Louisville, KY, and his grandchildren: Matthew, Sarah, Lauren, Katie, Andrew and Charlie. He was born in Murray, KY August 12, 1930. He attended Murray State University for two years and then joined the Navy. He served on a destroyer during the Korean War. After being discharged he returned to college at the University of Kentucky and received his BS Degree in business management. His J.C. Penney career began in 1956 in Louisville, KY. after which he continued his career in nine different locations. Twenty five years were spent managing large stores and five years traveling as a district manager. He retired in 1992 as manager of the Pompano Beach, FL store. He was repeatedly awarded the prestigious J. C. Penney Chairman's Award. Bob was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, a Blue Lodge Mason, a Scottish Rite Mason, and a Kaaba Shriner. He loved spending time with his family, playing golf, working in his garden, and cheering on his U. of Kentucky Wildcats. He was preceded in death by his wonderful mother and father, Vera and Walter Hutchens, and his brother, Porter, of Murray, KY. Friends and family may gather Saturday March 14, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church at 600 Camino Real, Boca Raton, FL 561-395-2811, for a celebration of Bob's life. Officiating will be Dr. Kirk McCormick and Pastor Bob Collins. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Building Fund of the church.

I enjoyed spending many hours on the golf course with Bob. He depicted the standards set for all masons and was a model for the rest of us. He will be missed.
