Happiest Heavenly Birthday! In rememberance of some crazy stuff we did way back in the day! Remember driving my little Champ around Ma's extended back yard, this after having driven up hills and rolling backwards down them up in the pits...that was a night...ba ha ha....we all might have had a couple drinks...but I'm not totally sure. The good old days!

Hello Steve. You were a good friend, and I have many photos of our parties and travels in south Florida. I'd like to share your humor in the mid 80s. I had a red 1984 Civic hatchback, and you called it the little red school bus. You did not like rap, and I did, and you made up rhymes like "You are are from Jersey, you can't go back. I'd like to send you back to Hackensack."

Happy Heavenly Birthday! I was in South FL this year and googled Morey's (ba ha ha) and can't believe it had actually been located in the area I was in (there was an interesting article about it). You dragged me to some crazy places. I always thought you would be retired in FL and I would be sure to be visiting. ~Snookies~

Yes sir. Still remember you. So many memories. How about the nickname I gave you for a few months? the Steve "I don't dance that jive" Barnhart. Haha. For nothing in the world would you dance Reggae. Scene: It's a sunny afternoon in FL, we're at a beach bar. I go to the restroom, I come back and can't find you. Guess what? There's Steve dancing that jive with very nice looking girl on the dancefloor, shades and all dancing to a Bob Marley tune. We went through good times and bad times together. To this day I've never found a friend like you. Peace, sir. Happy Birthday.

I can still remember being on the boat with you and crazy Mike, hearing that song for the first time, and being totally shocked by the lyrics. You laughed. Of course after I had to get the CD just for that song. We had some good times! A timely reminder of your birthday - Cheers!!!

I was in Steve's old stomping grounds near Boca Raton, FL this weekend when diving off of Boynton Beach. Being there made me think of Steve and the memories we shared while growing up together as boys back in East Greenbush, NY. We didn't see much of each other after High School but kept in touch while he was in the Air Force, at college, and working for IBM. I'm still saddened by his passing and had hoped to see him more often as we got older. Unfortunately, that was not the case. However, the memories of Steve are happy ones that will be with me throughout the rest of my life.

Snooks - the other day I was sweeping and I heard a ting, ting go rolling across the floor. I thought it was a BB. It was not, of course, it was a bead. But it made me smile and wonder why you ever rolled all those BB's under my bedroom door. Just to torture me I am sure. I think I could probably go to Ma's and still find BB's in that room! If you were here, this year you would be retired, moved back to Florida, boating and taking care of your birds. If you were here, I could call your answering machine and hear a butler announcing that the master was in the garden or a pirate taking the message. If you were here, you would be saying things to me like "why you clinking, clanking, clattering, collection of kaligenous junk." If you were here, you would bat me on the head and call me Snookies! If you were here, you would be cawing like a crow. If you were here, you could wire a system into my car. If you were here, I would be visiting you and we would be having a ball just doing those things that we did. Remembering........

That was hilarious. He deserved it.

Snooks - Yesterday while at your grave, I thought that you are getting a big laugh. That cemetery you chose is either like the Sahara Desert, has ground so hard you can't put anything in, has freezing cold gusty winds, has a caretaker that mowes over everything in his/her path, and this season not all the roads are plowed. I arrived yesterday to have to re-adjust everything that had blown over...just a normal visit there. The crows are cawing - that reminds me of you! Merry Christmas. Later - Snookies.

Marilyn:

On Monday, the 24th, we were camping up near Lake George. When we stopped for lunch on the way home, I heard an old 80's song on the radio and was reminded of your bother Steve. I was telling Craig how he used to take Jimmy C. and I to Fat Cat's to go dancing ( we were too young to drive ourselves). Anyway, it was always a lot of fun; I remember him being a really nice guy. Last time I talked to him was at your wedding and I enjoyed reminiscing a little about those Fat Cat sessions. Craig reminded me he died a couple of years ago; I had forgotten.

Anyway, I kept thinking about him all day, and when we returned home I googled his name for some reason, maybe to see if the obituary was out there. I ended up finding a post that you made, and one that your sister Janet made that very day. It was his Birthday!

I didn't really know your brother well at all. Having thought of him so many year later, and on his birthday no less, is a little weird. I'm sorry for your loss, but I hope it makes you feel better to know that someone else out there was remembering Steve. He must have been a special guy.

I am Steve's Brazilian friend. I met him at the famous Country Western nightclub New West in Austin, TX. We were both learning how to Country Western dance, I know he had a great time dancing there. We took many classes together, and the dance I liked to do with him the most was the Jitterbug; it was his best. Steve loved nature, we went to Lake Travis many times on his boat. He talked about how much fun he had boating in Florida. He and I liked the ocean and the Sun, we liked to sunbathe by his pool or on the beach when we had opportunity, which he referred to as "catching some rays". We went bike riding at the Zilker Park and we would stop at Chuys for drinks. He loved hiking at the Wild Basin Nature Preserve in Austin. One Thanksgiving I met his brother and family when they came to visit Steve. We had dinner together and went for a walk through the neighborhood, and the next day he and his nephews went for a ride at the Lake on his boat. Then I met his sister and niece in Tampa, Florida when we were there for Laura's wedding. We also visited the Busch Gardens and the MGM studio. Steve loved aerobic classes and he taught me some step choreography, can you imagine! I am an Aerobic Certification Specialist and a Personal Trainer, did I mention that? He was good at aerobics, and he even took the 24 Hour Fitness Aerobic Instructor Training. When I first met Steve in 1993 he said he did not want have children, therefore we were supposed to remain friends only, because I had 4 children ranging from 3 to 14 years old. Well he ended up treating them like his children. He hosted their birthday parties and came to many of all my 4 children's parties and always gave them presents. He came to Dallas for my birthday and to my daughter Cathleen's birthday party and College Graduation in May of 2005. He always helped us celebrate the important occasions like Charleen's Wedding in 2003. He was the DJ. During these events many of my friends and clients met him and they all were very impressed with his thoughtfulness towards me and my children. We took vacations together, once to Playa del Carmen, in Mexico, where he had this amazing experience, besides seeing the Mayan ruins, when we were driving and Steve missed the U turn and we flew over a ditch and landed on a big rock. We survived, but the car did not. In 2003 we went to Brazil, for my 50th birthday to see my family and friends and again they just thought he was such a good friend to accompany us for this occasion. We went to Copacabana, to Ipanema, we rode on the cable car to the Sugar Loaf, and we drove through the southern coast of Brazil from Sao Paula to Rio de Janeiro. Steve helped me countless hours with my house in Austin. By the way he gave me his old peacock sofas, I still have them. That is where he slept the last time he came to my house in Dallas on December 10th 2005, for my oldest daughter Charleen's College Graduation and Christmas Party. The day after the party we all took a walk at the White Rock Lake Trail and after that I said "Goodbye, please take care of yourself." That was the last time I saw or talked to him. I tried to contact him by phone to see how his vacation went and to wish him a Happy New Year but to no avail. I am terribly distraught and overcome with grief to hear of my friend Steve's passing.

We will always remember Steve's kindness, his support, and his recognition through the accomplishments of our lives. My two older daughters lost their father to cancer when they were 7 and 9 years old, and Steve was always there for them during the times that they needed recognition.

I want to thank his family for his upbringing and for sharing him with us.

Steve, thank you so much for being a part of our lives. We will miss you awefully until hopefully we see you again somewhere out there.

I never would have believed that this could happen to you.

I wish that you had retired and came back to New York. Maybe I could have helped you.

When July comes around and Steve doesn't come home for his vacation, it will be so sad.

I will miss talking to you on the phone and sometimes asking you questions about my television or car.

Steve and I worked together on many IBM projects for the past 10 years in Austin. We also did mountain bike rides and often ran into each others at the gym. Steve was very professional at work and was very pleasant and fun to be with in general. He always had positive attitude. I enjoyed every conversation I had with Steve. We all have many friends during our life journey. Steve was one of my favorites. His passing was a great loss. Steve, may you rest in peace.
