Tyler Scott Obituary

Scott, Tyler William, age 5, died February 8, 2006 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC, following a brief illness. Tyler was born on August 14, 2000, to Howard and Dana Stavola Scott of Charlotte. In addition to his parents, he is survived by three brothers, Chase, Bryce and Aidan; paternal grandmother, Gail Sammet and her husband, Lt. Gen. ret. George Sammet Jr. of Cocoa, FL; grandfather, Dr. Anthony Scott and his wife, Judi of Winter Park, FL; maternal grand parents, Guy and Joan Stavola of Boca Raton, FL; great-grandparents, Connie Scott of Winter Park, FL, and Dominic Stavola of Pompano Beach, FL; aunts and uncles, Anthony Scott Jr. and his wife, Carole, Heather Durbin and her husband, David, Ian Scott, Catherine Scott, Blake Scott, Shannon Scott, Lisa Ockerman and her husband, Mike, and Tara Petracco and her husband, Art; and eleven cousins. Although Tyler was only on this earth for five years, he left a lasting mark. If there was a job to do, he was your "Worker" man. Tyler was very courageous in his battle with cancer and even in his time of need he left the same impression with his doctors and nurses as he had with everyone he ever met; The Most Beautiful, Sweetest Boy. The family will receive friends Friday evening, February 10, from 6:30 until 8:00 at the Hankins & Whittington Dilworth Chapel. There will be a funeral mass at 11:00 AM Saturday morning at St. Patrick's Cathedral, 1621 Dilworth Road East. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Brainstem Glioma Research, 332 N. Lauderdale Street, Memphis, TN 38105-2794. Arrangements are in the care of Hankins & Whittington, Dilworth Chapel, 1111 East Blvd. Online at www.hankinsandwhittington.com.

To the Scott Family, My husband works with Joan, Tyler's grandmother. Much of my son's clothing has been worn by Tyler, as Joan has been so generous to our family. I am so very sorry for your loss. You have been in my thoughts and prayers these last few weeks.

Dear Scott Family,

You don't know me but I'm the mother of Olivia Young, the 2 year old that passed away at CMC on 2/5/2006. A gentleman at Hankins & Whittington told us about your precious son. I am so sorry for your family's loss. Tyler looks like he was a joy to be with and I pray that your family finds peace. Don't hesitate to email should you need me. Focus on his smile and allow your friends and family to help you through this time. I pray that all of us will eventually stop hurting the way we do now. God be with your family.

My daughter Libby is in Chase's class at school and she came home the other day saying "Mom, something really sad happened today--Chase's brother died". Indeed. What a beautiful little boy. I did not know Tyler nor do I know his family, but I want to express my concern for them during this terribly difficult time. Others care and are keeping you close in thought and prayer. May God, and the joy of Tyler's memories, give you strength.

I saw those adorable chubby cheeks today in the paper and my heart sank. Although, I haven't seen Tyler or his brothers in quite awhile, I have always remembered his bright spirit and big brown eyes. I can remember him "brushing" my hair with a plastic hammer. He was a creative little guy. And too sweet and special to forget. To Dana, Howard, Chase, Aidan, and Bryce. My heart, spirit, and prayers are with you. I know that Tyler also had a very special Aunt who loved him very much. Catie,I am so sorry. Tyler can now watch over you and all your family as your little angel in heaven. God bless you and your family.

I had the blessing of meeting this sweet, smiling little boy. He loved to hang out with his Aunt Catie! He brought a smile to everyone he met, and will be missed.

Howard, Dana and Family: Your faith and love from family and friends are here for you now and always. Your precious child on earth has become your angel in heaven. Even though your hearts are heavy the stars will twinkle a bit brighter as Tyler will keep a watchful eye on his parents and brothers always.
