Wallace Brewer Obituary

Wallace "Wally" Brewer, 85, of Ft. Lauderdale passed away Monday April 21, 2014. Wally was a well known tavern owner in Ft. Lauderdale for many years, and was very generous to many civic and charitable organizations. Wally was a veteran of the US Coast Guard and the US Army. He was the Grand Marshal of several St. Patrick's Day Parades. He is survived by his son Donald Brewer and daughter Debbie Kelly both of Rochester, NY; granddaughter Lisa (Matt) McConville, and two great grandsons, Braeden and Gavin McConville, all of NY . A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 25th at 11:30 am in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4549 Bayview Dr., Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Expressions of sympathy in Wally's memory may be made to Sylvester Cancer Center, or Catholic Hospice. Arrangements entrusted to Kalis-McIntee Funeral & Cremation Center, Wilton Manors, FL. Wally you are missed! To his children and Grandchildren, my condolences. Wally was always a man who made you feel special. Great sense of humor! I feel so bad that I just found out about his passing today. Would have definitely been at the services. Miss you Wally!

We met Wally many years ago and enjoyed his company, his stories, his pictures and the "Traditional Finnegan's Wake" that originated on 33rd St. Will ALWAYS have fond memories. So saddened to learn about Wally's passing. I remember meeting him for the first time at his "Downtowner" back in the 70's and then I worked for him in the 80's at his "A-frame". That's where I met Ray on a Saint Patrick's Day celebration. I'm so sorry that I can't attend his services. My thoughts and prayers to his family.

Wally had the gift of making everyone feel like you were his friend. His tavern was his home and he was the ultimate host. Life was more fun with Wally telling his stories and instigating more. Although he'll be missed he will live on in our hearts and our memories.

A Gentleman and a friend. One of the last of his kind. Founding member of the Broward Emerald Society. Many a meeting dragged well into the night at the "Downtowner". Who will ever forget the bonfire out behind the bar on closing night with the NY Emerald Pipers in a ring around the flames playing away! Great times! Save me a seat, Pal!
