William Schrader Obituary

Schrader, William "Bill", 91, a three year resident of Plantation passed away April 19, 2008 at the Hospice Unit in University Hospital, Tamarac, FL. A native of New Jersey, Bill learned the produce business from his father and later had a 35 year career with B. Finkel and Son Purveyors. His second profession was his joy. He transported handicapped children for the Union County School Board for 20 years. He served in the Army Air Force from 1944 to 1946 as a B-52 bomber mechanic and was injured while on duty. Bill was superintendent of an 8 unit apartment building in Millburn for 21 years where he made many good friends. He was a needlepoint artist having completed more than 75 canvases in his lifetime. He belonged to The American Legion No.140 in Millburn, No. 155 in Whippany NJ and the Elks Club. He was preceded in death by Eileen Sullivan Schrader in 1968, daughter Diane Schrader Anewalt and second wife Hannah (Anne) Hoellerer Schrader in 1990. Bill is survived by daughter Elizabeth Pulice and husband Tom; his grandchildren, Steven, Matt, Eileen and Diana; great-grandchildren: Ashley, Noah, Faith, Jonah, Alex and Christopher; sisters Ethel and Dorothy; niece Reggie; and many other loving nieces, nephews and cousins. His memory will be cherished by all those whose lives he touched with his caring and light-hearted spirit. A memorial service will be held at St. Gabriel Catholic Church on Wednesday April 23, 2008 at 10:30 am, 731 N. Ocean Blvd., Pompano Beach, FL 33062. His ashes will be interred at South Florida VA National Cemetery with honors at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, 633 Third Avenue, 12th Floor, New York, NY 10164-2683 or Vitas Hospice, 5420 NW 33 Avenue, Ft. He was my "Uncle Bill", my hero. He was so tall, so handsome in his military jacket and cap.

That was 60 years ago but that image has stayed with me for all these years, as have my memories of his kindness to a little girl. What a nice guy....a one of a kind man....He'll be missed....
