William Zinkil Obituary

Zinkil, William G., "Bill" born April 14, 1919 in Chicago, IL moved to Hollywood, FL in 1925. Survived by his loving wife Carolyn of 71 years, sons William Jr. (Barbara) of Atlanta, GA, James (Donna) of Otto, NC and Charles (Linda) Wilkesboro, NC, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Bill lived his life in Hollywood and had an active political career. He served as Hollywood City Commissioner, was the first elected Mayor of Hollywood, served as Broward County Tax Assessor, served in the Florida House of Representatives and in the Florida Senate. Bill was also a member of Zinkil Roofing Co. until his retirement in 1994. He was an active member of Little Flower Catholic Church and Saint Mark Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Holy Name Society, the American Legion and the VFW. Bill was also a member of The Committee of 100, the Elks Lodge, the Hollywood Historical Society and was past president of The League of Cities. Bill will be missed by all whose lives he had touched. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Alzheimer Research Foundation 866-AFA-8484. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, 6-7 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 6:45 p.m. Arrangements at Landmark Funeral Home, 4200 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, FL 33021 954-989-8220.

My sympathy goes out to the Zinkil family regarding the passing of William. May his soul rest in peace. I remember well when he was the Mayor of Hollywood.
