Floyd Traylor
Floyd L. Traylor, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away on Monday, August 16, 2021 in his home at 90 years young. He was born on July 28, 1931 in Barber, Arkansas to William and Pauline (May) Traylor. He attended grade school in Abbott, Arkansas and at 11 years old he moved to California. Floyd got his first taste of "selling" when he sold newspapers on a street corner in Los Angeles. Floyd and his family moved back to Arkansas a he graduated from Mansfield High School in 1950. After high school he served in the U.S. Air Force for 2 years and was stationed in Korea. Following his military service he worked for General Motors in Los Angeles and 1956 he moved back to Fort Smith where he purchased land on 271 South and opened Floyd's Body Shop, all while attending Carl Albert Junior College. Floyd met his bride Kathryn and they were married on December 29, 1958, and were married for 62 1/2 years. In 1972 Floyd and Kathy obtained the Mazda franchise and have been dealers for 44 years. In 1976 they added Honda and moved to a new location on 271 South and in 2010 they moved to the current location on Zero Street in Fort Smith. Floyd was a natural salesperson and loved the challenge of selling. Besides cars he sold motorcycles, four wheelers, dirt bikes, tractors, among other things. He loved collecting antique cars and going to car auctions. He was very civic minded and enjoyed helping his community. Floyd loved the Lord and attended Haven Heights Baptist Church and later attended Harvest Time Church. He enjoyed talking to people and never met a stranger.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn Tabor Traylor, of the home; two daughters, Sherry Traylor of Fort Smith and Melanie Traylor Wilson and her husband Buddy of Prosper, Texas; three grandchildren, Remi Traylor Wilson of Fayetteville, AR, William Riley Wilson of Honolulu, Hawaii and Ramsey Dell Wilson of Prosper, TX. ; a sister, Anna Mae Craig of Fontana, California; several nieces and one nephew and his special grand dog, "Taffi".
Funeral services are 11:00AM, Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Harvest Time Church, the family will visit with friends following the service. Burial will be at 1:00PM at Oak Cemetery under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Courtney Dunn, Frank Sharum, Cotton Lewis, Ronnie Tabor, Eric Cusick and Riley Wilson.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the River Valley Regional Food Bank, 1617 Zero St., Fort Smith, AR 72901.
