Joseph Alan Edwards, 80, of Fort Smith entered into rest Nov. 27, 2018, in Fort Smith. He was born June 13, 1938, in Arkoma. He loved to visit and learn the history of the 49 states and Europe that he and Betty extensively traveled. The son of the late James and Flossie (Barker) Edwards, Joe was a director for Whirlpool Corp. and a veteran of the Army National Guard. Joe was a longtime member of Central Christian Church. When his sons were younger, he coached church little league baseball and was affectionately known as "Daddy Joe." In his professional life, he was a charter member of APIC and served on the board of directors for Fort Smith.
He was preceded in death by his son, Randall "Randy" Lee Edwards.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Betty Edwards; daughter, Elaine Birgelis and husband Vitas of Fort Smith; son, Joseph "Jody" Alan Edwards II and wife Julie of Rogers; daughter-in-law, Katie Edwards of Muldrow; brother, Perry Edwards of Casa Grande, Ariz.; grandchildren, Travis Edwards and wife Tabby, Ben Marts and wife Sarah Beth, Joseph Edwards III and Daniel and Samuel Edwards; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018, at Central Christian Church, 400 N. Waldron Road, Fort Smith, officiated by Bill Fink and Tim Beasley.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis-Roberts Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith.
