Hubert "Hammer" Dean, age 70, of Max Meadows, passed away on May 3, 2022. Hubert was a friend to all and a legend of his time. Everyone knew him for his love of junk cars and passion for helping others. It didn't matter who you were, or where you came from, Hubert had a way of making everyone feel special. He was a pillar of the community and lived in Max Meadows his whole life. He will be dearly missed and his legacy will surely live on. Everyone has a Hubert Dean story. He was the proud owner and operator of Dean Hollow Salvage.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kemberly Dean of the home; daughter, Grace Dean of the home, son, Jonathon Dean of Pulaski; daughter and spouse, Susan and Barry Lane of Pulaski; sister, Mary Kennedy of Tennessee; brothers, Marshal Dean of Max Meadows, and Clifton Dean of Wytheville; mother and father-in-law, Gwen and Donny Ayers of Ivanhoe; sisters and brothers-in-law, Amanda and Eric Bond of Hillsville, and Stacy and Steve Forrester of Georgia, three grandchildren: grandson and spouse, Brandon and Jennifer Dean; grandson, Mathew Dean, and granddaughter, Koala and spouse, Jeffery Lambert. He had 11 great-grandchildren he cherished and two grandchildren by heart Eli and Evan Halsey. He is also survived by many close friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Belver Dean; father, Jasper Dean, and several brothers and sisters.
The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2022, at the Barnett Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, May 7, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Jones Cemetery.
