Norma Linkous Obituary

Norma K. "Hoppy" Linkous

February 20, 1951 - January 30, 2021

Norma K. "Hoppy" Linkous, age 69, of Wytheville, Va. (Cripple Creek Community), departed from her earthly home Saturday, January 30, 2021, following a short illness. She was born on February 20, 1951, at home in Crockett, Va., the daughter of the late Hubert "Jelly" and Frances Kincer. She was preceded in death by infant twin sons, brother, Robert "Bobby" Kincer; sister, Alice "Faye" Brown and the love of her life, Richard.

She was a proud graduate of Rural Retreat High School, Class of 1969. She spent over 50 years working the Linkous farm beside Richard. In recent years, she loved spending time with all of her "bestie's" at Sunny Hills Community Church. A Godly woman her entire life, she continued to grow in her faith while attending growth groups, women's Bible study, and church every Sunday. She was best known for her smile that would light up a room, her contagious laugh, her big hugs, her open invitation into her home and heart, and always being herself. She spent her entire life thinking of and doing for others and will always be remembered as the "card lady" with scratch tickets. Her final word when departing or hanging up the phone was "later" because she said "goodbye is just too final."

Survivors include three daughters, Stacey Linkous (Dwayne Fisher) of Wytheville, Jodey and Jamie Pugh of Rural Retreat, and Amber Linkous (Jared Shelton) of Wytheville; grandson, Justin Pugh (Savana Kincer); step grandchildren, Sydney Fisher, Logan Fisher, and Cody Shelton; sisters, Wanda "Shortie" Hall of Crockett, and Donna "Do" and Bill Lethco, of Wytheville; special sister-in-law, Sandy Linkous of Rural Retreat; furry companions, Gretchen and Sir Bentley, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends.

A celebration of life service will be held in early Spring (Hoppy's favorite season) on the Linkous Farm, est. 1954, with Pastor Alan Wilder and the Reverend Derek Cowan officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sunny Hills Community Church, 2973 N 4th St., Wytheville, VA 24382, Brock Hughes Medical Center, 450 West Monroe Street, Wytheville, VA 24382, Wythe County Young Life, P.O. Box 1531, Wytheville, VA 24382, or Wythe County Humane Society, 600 Atkins Mill Road, Wytheville, VA 24382.
