William "Bill" Fletcher
July 29, 1927 - November 2, 2022
The Reverend William B. Fletcher, of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2022, in a Richlands, Virginia hospital with family by his side.
Bill was a decorated Korean War veteran, a local businessman, deacon at Garden Baptist Church, and longtime pastor of the Hill Creek Baptist Church in Richlands. Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife Ruby after a happy 67-year marriage. Bill had multiple successful careers in his long life. He was General Manager of a Portsmouth, Virginia lumber company before starting his own home improvement business in Vansant. After this career, Bill was called by the Lord and served over 30 years as minister and pastor of Hill Creek Baptist Church until his retirement at age 92. He will be missed by his family, church, and the community he served for many years.
Bill was welcomed in heaven by his parents, Rufus and Garnie Nuckles Fletcher; his brothers, Omer Fletcher, Ralph Fletcher, Harold Fletcher, and Ken Fletcher; and sisters, Lou Owenby, Agnes Deel, and Edith McClanahan.
Bill is survived by his sons, William Barry Fletcher and wife, Anita, of Norfolk, Va., Lonnie David Fletcher and wife, Marianne, of Smithfield, Va., Michael Ayers Fletcher and wife, Laura Dimple, of Cedar Bluff, Va., and Douglas Mark Fletcher and wife, Tara, of Chesapeake, Va.; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and a host of family friends.
The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the members of Hill Creek Baptist, especially Cindy Matney, Opel Bandy, and daughter-in-law, Dimple Fletcher, for their aid and comfort though our Father's illness.

The funeral for Rev. Bill Fletcher was held 7 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2022, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, with the Rev. Larry Burton and the Rev. John Musick officiating. Interment was held Sunday, November6, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Fletcher Family Cemetery on Fletcher Ridge near Rowe, Virginia. Those going to the cemetery were asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Pallbearers were Craig Daniels, Ethan Doss, Braxton Houchins, Larry Fletcher, Lee White, Chris McClanahan, Derrick Fletcher, and Chris Street. Military Rites were conducted by the Casey-Shortt VFW Post 9640.
