Howard Kent Scruton, died peacefully November 27, 2024 in Syracuse, NY, after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Survived by spouse, Irene E. Scruton (nee Galgan); their son, Brian H. Scruton (Lindsie); and grandchildren, Colin, Austin (dec.) Grace and Eve.
He is also survived by sons from a prior marriage, W. Craig Scruton (Karen) of Georgia and Keith Scruton (Tanya) of Georgia. He was predeceased by parents, Howard and Audrey Scruton.
Howard Kent was a Native of St. Johnsbury, Vermont. He attended Northfield Mt. Hermon, a college preparatory school in Gill, MA where he excelled as a championship athlete in ski jumping, downhill racing, football and baseball. Following Mt. Hermon, he served in the U.S. Army before attending Northeastern University in Boston, MA. Following positions in Boston in development and the defense industry, Howard relocated for opportunities in Syracuse NY.
In Syracuse, he established HKS Realty Associates Inc. in Liverpool, NY which he led for more than 30 years developing and managing commercial real estate property in Upstate New York, Vermont and Massachusetts.
Howard had a kind and youthful spirit. Throughout his life, he enjoyed golf, skiing and especially entertaining with family and friends in DeWitt and Sylvan Beach, NY. He was a devoted supporter of family projects and embraced the polish traditions of his in-laws. Howard took pride in never having missed his son Brian's soccer games all through grade school, high school, club and college. Although the many soccer travel stories were gone from Howard's memories, they continue to be a source of enjoyment for the family and friends.
Irene and the family would like to thank the many family friends for their kindness over the years in offering support with Howard. For the last year, we wish to thank the wonderful support staff at Loretto's Cunningham for their special care.
A calling hour will be Saturday, December 28 from 11:00 am – noon at Holy Cross Church, 4112 E. Genesee Street, DeWitt, NY followed by a Holy Mass of Christian Burial at noon at the Church. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in DeWitt.
