Audrey Cohen Obituary

Audrey Elaine (Mayer) Cohen

Audrey Elaine (Mayer) Cohen, 80, passed away on December 8, 2013, in her bed surrounded by her loving family. Audrey, known as "Cissie" since she was a little girl, was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. She was born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, on March 8, 1933, and moved to Orlando in her 20's, where she married and raised her children. After her children were grown, Audrey pursued her dream and obtained her college degree from the University of Central Florida, majoring in Social Work. She then worked for the Visiting Nurses Association and Meals on Wheels for many years. She was very proud of being a social worker, and loved to talk about her work, and all her wonderful elderly clients. Upon retirement, she moved around Florida, always to be near family, ultimately settling in Tallahassee. She was a lifelong member of ORT, the National Council of Jewish Women, and Hadassah, and more recently, an active member of Congregation Shomrei Torah in Tallahassee. She loved gardening and attacking wayward greenery with her favorite hedge clipper. Her upbeat spirit earned her the nickname of "Giggles" by her care-givers and fellow residents, first at Cherry Laurel, and then at Westminster Oaks. She is survived by her brother Herbert "Buzz" Mayer (Evie) in Irwin, Pennsylvania, her son Robert (Karen) in Tallahassee, her daughters Wendy and Jennifer in North Port, Florida, and her son Arthur (Liz) in Marietta, Georgia. She is also survived by her pride and joy - her grandchildren - Ashley and Daniel Cavallo in Tallahassee, and Ben, Isaac, and Sam Cohen in Marietta, Georgia. Audrey's final months were made so special by the wonderful, loving staff of the Westminster Oaks Health Center, who were joined in her final days by the caring members of the Big Bend Hospice team. She will be dearly missed.

Funeral services will be held graveside on Tuesday, December 10th, at 3pm, at Culley's Meadow Wood on Timberlane Road.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Congregation Shomrei Torah, 4858 Kerry Forest Parkway, Tallahassee, FL 32308, or to your favorite charity.
