Charlotte Laffitte Obituary

Charlotte Miller Laffitte

Tallahassee - Surrounded by her loving children, Charlotte Miller Laffitte went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 11, 2020.

Charlotte was born December 6, 1933, in Tampa, Florida. As a young girl her family moved to Quincy, Florida. Charlotte attended Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, NC and Florida State University, where she earned her Bachelor degree in Elementary Education.

Charlotte married the love of her life Morgan Laffitte, an Air Force Cadet, on December 22, 1955. Morgan's Air Force career took them across the country and around the world before finally settling in Tallahassee. Charlotte taught in Florida, Texas, and Jakarta, Indonesia. She finished her teaching career in Tallahassee at Sabal Palm and Springwood Elementary Schools. Charlotte was generous with her time and resources to friends and family, leaving a lasting impact. She loved traveling, getting together with friends, FSU Seminole sports, Atlanta Braves baseball, cats, and her family. Her favorite pastime was going to FSU baseball games. She was a member of the FSU Extra Point Club and a dedicated member of Deer Lake United Methodist Church.

Charlotte often smiled and said, "It's a long way from Quincy to Tallahassee." For her, it was very true and quite a journey.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and her beloved husband Morgan. She is survived by her children, Boyd Laffitte (Liz), Gregory Laffitte (Kathy), and Rebecca Senko (Paul); her grandchildren, Trey Laffitte (Ginny), Irene Lykens (BJ), Travis Laffitte (Brittany), Jordan Laffitte (Liz), Megan Bell (Matt), Caroline Senko, and Victoria Senko. Charlotte was blessed to have eleven great-grandchildren whom she adored. She will be missed by all.

There will be a graveside service at 2:00 pm, Monday, December 14, 2020 at MeadowWood Memorial Park on Timberlane Road. All attendees are strongly encouraged to wear a mask and practice Covid-19 safety protocols. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308 or your favorite charity.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to caregiver, Sandra Jerger and to the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff at Big Bend Hospice.

Kelly Barber of Bevis Funeral Home (850-385-2193 or www.bevisfh.com) is assisting the Laffitte family with their arrangements.

My husband, Ed, and I, were close friends with Charlotte and Morgan at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana, and Charlotte was the kindergarten teacher of our son, Scott. I was so sorry to see this notice on line - had not heard from her in awhile and wondered. We were very happy when she was able to come to Hawaii to visit and had a great time showing her the island. Our sympathy and empathy certainly go out to Becky, Boyd and Greg. (You all were quite short when we knew you :-). Charlotte was a beautiful person in every way ... marrying the "love of her life" was certainly true - we loved them both.

I was so saddened to hear of Charlotte’s passing. I knew her while I was in elementary school as the mom of Boyd, Greg, and Becky and good neighbor who lived on our street. I remember her as as good influence on all. I also remember her pretty smile and warm personality. I know she will be missed. My heart and prayers go out to her family.

My condolences on Mrs. Laffitte's passing. I met Mrs. Laffitte, many years ago, through Carolyn Glenn, Godby High School. May she rest in peace.
