Daisy M. Harrison Sharon QUINCY - Daisy Murray Harrison Sharon, 87, an R.N. and retired Gadsden County public health nurse, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002. She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Harrison Belisle of Sanford. The service will be at 2 p.m. EST Saturday at Centenary United Methodist Church in Quincy, with burial at Sylvania Cemetery in Decatur County, Ga. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. EST Friday at McClellan Funeral Home in Quincy (627-1111). Memorial contributions may be made to Methodist Church Thrift Shop, 206 N. Madison St., Quincy, FL 32351, or to Florida United Methodist Children's Home, P.O. Box 6299, Deltona, FL 32728. Mrs. Sharon was born in Faceville, Ga. She graduated with honors from the Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Pensacola in the early 1930s. During World War II, she worked an eight-hour shift at the hospital in Pensacola and also volunteered eight hours at the Navy hospital to support the war effort. Mrs. Sharon was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. She was a devoted, much-loved nurse in the state of Florida for nearly 50 years. She touched the lives of many and helped to bring many babies into this world. Through the years, she certainly made a mark that will live on for years to come. Many doctors and nurses were influenced by her to go into the medical field. From her graduation until her retirement in 1979 from the Gadsden County Health Department, she was a devoted nurse to her community, family and friends- loved by many. She will be missed greatly. The legend of Miss Daisy will live on forever. She will be remembered as "Miss Daisy," "The Nurse" and "Aunt Daisy" by the local folks. Most will remember her as the public health nurse who from 1948 to 1979 in the schools gave them shots, love and advice. Mrs. Sharon enjoyed fishing, gardening and the church thrift shop. She proudly served in many local, district and state positions with the Nurses' Association and also volunteered in many areas of first aid and civil defense. Other survivors include three sisters, Lela Murray Ward of Clinton, Tenn., Vera Murray Poitevint of Bainbridge, Ga., and Dorothy Murray Aligood of Iron City, Ga.; three brothers, Edward Murray of Faceville, Bryant Murray of Chattahoochee and Rufus Murray of Silver Spring, Md.; four grandchildren, Crystal Belisle of Quincy, Cynthia Belisle Etchemendy of Taos Ski Valley, N.M., Michael Belisle of Dallas and Mark Belisle of Gotha; 11 grandchildren, Heather, Michael and Mark Belisle, Katie Jones, Tyler, Brent and Dylan Fitzgerald, Jason Turner, Jamie Reinhart and Tyler and Brooklyn Bestgen; and two great-grandchildren, Savannah and Daniel Reinhart.
