Tallahassee - Mr. Dennis Edwin Smith, died peacefully in Capital Regional Medical Center on June 5, 2021 in Tallahassee, Florida at the age of 74.

Dennis Edwin Smith is survived by his daughters, Mary Alicia Smith of Tallahassee and Laura Nicole Smith of Havana, FL; grandchildren, Tra'Voughn Smith of Tallahassee, Hayden Skye and Skyelar Michelle Anderson of Havana, FL; siblings, Jack Smith (Pam) of Havana, FL, Sandra Shiver (Larry) of Wakulla Station, FL, Julie Floyd ( Randy) of Gerogetown, TX. He is preceded in death by his wife Penne Sue Michaels Smith, mother, Mary Bernice McCollum of Tallahassee, and father, Hardy Jack Smith of Tallahassee.

Dennis was born on August 18, 1946 in Tallahassee, Florida to Mary Bernice McCollum and Hardy Jack Smith. He graduated from Florida High School in 1965. Married the love of his life, Penne Sure Michaels of Dallas in 1982. Dennis began working in finance for Ford Motor Credit in his early 20's. In his late 30's Dennis opened his own company, D & J Septic Tank Company which is still in operation today. Over the next few years, the couple welcomed 2 children into their home, two daughters, Laura Nicole and Mary Alicia. His children remember him as a straight shooter with a gentle heart.

Dennis was accomplished with a successful business in the onsite wastewater industry throughout the Big Bend Area. He was a dedicated husband, father, and most importantly "Papa" who loved the outdoors, racing and FSU Football. Towards the end of his life he was able to make peace and rebuild his relationship with Christ.

The family would like to personally thank Tracey Hall for her unwavering support and Richard " Red Dog" Heburn for his friendship and bringing our father back to Christ.

The family will receive friends, Thursday, June 10, 2021 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Bevis Funeral Home, 200 John Knox Road, Tallahassee, Florida. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, June 11, 2021, at Bevis Funeral Home Chapel, interment will follow at Tallahassee, Memory Gardens.
