Dewey Langston Obituary

Dewey Maximo Langston BAINBRIDGE - Dewey Maximo "Max" Langston, 88, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004. The service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Stephen L. Webb, Tommy Fussell and Donna Sue Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Oak City Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Ivey Funeral Home (229-246-3232 orwww.iveyfuneral.com). Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 541, Bainbridge, GA 39818, or Bainbridge-Decatur Co. YMCA, 1818 E. Shotwell St., Bainbridge, GA 39819. Mr. Langston was born April 11, 1916, in Smith Creek, the son of James E. and Gertrude Langston. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville. He was president and CEO of Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. of Bainbridge Inc. until his retirement in 1999. He was the founder and former CEO of Pepi Foods and served on the Board of Directors of Southeast Canners Inc. He was past president of the Bainbridge-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce, was Man of the Year in 1968, a member of the Georgia Soft Drink Association and formerly served on the boards of directors of the YMCA and the Memorial Hospital Foundation. Survivors include his wife, Sophia Langston; two daughters, Nancy L. Gray and Maria Hodges, both of Bainbridge; a brother, Jimmy Langston of Smith Creek; four sisters, Marguerite Ward of Pascagoula, Miss., and Janie Harrell, Thelma Grimes and June Langston, all of Smith Creek; seven grandchildren, Robert Dewey Langston Jr., Angela Gray Strickland, Nicholas Hodges and Bert Gray, all of Bainbridge, Ronald David Langston of Sunrise, Fred Gray of Climax, Ga., and Jeff Gray of Santa Rosa Beach; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth McDonald Langston, and a son, Robert Dewey Langston.

I just wanted you to know how sorry that we are. Uncle Max was a kind and generous person that was a blessing to many peoples lives. He definitely followed Jesus' example and lived his live accordling. We can gather peace to know that he went on to be with the savior. The one that has lead him for some many years. You will be missed greatly.
