Evelyn "Bunny" Hare VanBrunt

Tallahassee - Evelyn (Bunny) Hare Van Brunt, Tallahassee, Florida, peacefully passed away November 9, 2018. Bunny was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Bernard (Sonny) Van Brunt and is survived by her four children, Carolyn Frances Long (Charles), Talbot Bernard Van Brunt (Sally), William Allen Van Brunt (Bonnie Bernau, fiancé), Thomas Blake Van Brunt Sr. (Mary), her 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by many wonderful relatives and friends. Bunny was born November 19, 1925 in Marianna, Florida, to Edgar Allen Hare and Alma Elizabeth McCreary Hare. She attended FSCW (now Florida State University) and was remarkable on many levels. Besides being a devoted mother, she was a vanguard for women in the leadership of our country. She started as Receptionist for Governor LeRoy Collins then grew her career to become the Director of Legislative Information for the State of Florida. Some of her significant achievements were developing the voting systems within the chambers of the Florida State Legislature as well as introducing legislative information processing into the computer age. Her role in history will be valued for generations to come. Bunny enjoyed family times, especially at the coast, time with close friends and giving back to her community. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Big Bend Hospice 1723 Mahan Center Boulevard, Tallahassee, Florida 32308. A visitation will be held on Friday, November 16, 5-7 pm at Bevis Funeral Home, John Knox Rd. A graveside service will be on Saturday, November 17, at 1:00 pm Roselawn Cemetery.
