Harlan Franklin Obituary
Sebastian - Harlan Benjamin Franklin, Jr. passed away July 20, 2018, at age 89, at Hospice House in Vero Beach. He was the son of Harlan B. Franklin, Sr. and Carolyn Williams Franklin. Harlan was raised in South Georgia and Tallahassee, Florida. He attended FSU and became a real estate broker selling farms, commercial properties and raw acreage cut into small parcels around Tallahassee. He married Janey Getzen in 1959.
Harlan was active in fisheries politics, boating, cruising, but fishing was his passion. He was an outdoor writer publishing in the top fishing magazines. They spent 24 years in Key West where he was a flats fishing guide for 15 years. They moved to Sebastian in 2008 on the river across from the inlet, where he could fish from his boat or the dock. His memberships included: Fla. Outdoor Writers Assn., FCA/CCA, International Fishing Hall of Fame, IFGA, Fla. League of Anglers and Bonefish and Tarpon Trust.

I have always enjoyed remembering the bridge games at the Alpha Gam house, especially when Harlan joined the table. That was a long time ago, but I've often thought of him, and enjoyed learning now about his love for fishingl.

Sorry to learn of Harlans passing. The next time Reid goes fishing, he said he will catch one in memory of Harlan. Harlan had a great life living his passion of the outdoors. Thinking of you.
