Helen Ann Brown Arnold, 76, of Monroeton, Pa., passed away Tuesday morning, Nov, 1, 2016 at the Bradford County Manor, West Burlington Township, Pa. Helen was born on Feb. 12, 1940 in Oil City, Pa., the daughter of C. Kenneth Brown and Frances Hottenstein Brown. She was a graduate of Oil City Senior High School Class of 1958 and continued her education at Kutztown State Teachers College where she received her Bachelors of Education Degree in 1962.
On Dec. 14, 1963, Helen married Frederick Perry Arnold in Allentown, Pa. Mrs. Arnold taught elementary education at the Robb Junior High School and the Monroe Franklin Elementary School at Powell for several years. She received her Master's Degree in Education from Elmira College, Elmira, N.Y., in 1969.
Helen was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Towanda. She enjoyed gardening, playing piano and served as instrumentalist for the Powell United Methodist Church for a number of years. Helen enjoyed art and was a talented artist who painted in oils and water colors.
Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Frederick Perry Arnold Sr.; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Brian Arnold and Dr. Sarah Gottschalk of Turlock, Calif.; sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Fran Anderson and Harold Anderson of Harpursville, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews, cousins; John Levy and wife Patricia of Shillington, Pa.; Susan Riebel and husband Robert of Cincinnati, Ohio; brothers-in-law, Ron Arnold and wife Barbara of Powell, Pa., Jack Arnold and wife Karen of Frederick, Md., Edward Arnold of Endwell, N.Y.; and her "furry companions," Dudley and Popeye.
Helen was predeceased by her son, Frederick P. Arnold Jr., PhD, in 2007; infant daughter, Linda Frances Arnold in 1964; father, C. Kenneth Brown in 1986; mother, Frances H. Brown in 1988; father-in-law, Gerald S. Arnold in 1986; and mother-in-law, Carrie L. Arnold in 2011.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, 2016 at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa., with the Rev. Thomas A. Geiger, pastor of the Assembly of God Church, Towanda officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Powell Cemetery, Powell, Pa.
