I was deeply saddened to learn of Mr. Rudd's passing earlier this year. As a former neighbor I enjoyed the friendship of his family for many years. I also had the pleasure of interviewing Hurley during his years on the City Commission, and as a member of the House of Representatives.

In all my experiences, I always found him to be warm, caring, and friendly, always possessing a good sense of humor, and never taking himself too seriously no matter how high his position.

I know the many fine qualities Hurley possessed will live on in the love, integrity & character of his beloved family. Having experienced the loss of my own father earlier this year, I hope you find some small measure of comfort in knowing the passing of time will in some small part ease your sense of loss, with sadness being replaced more and more by only happy memories.

All my best always to the entire Rudd family.

My hope for his family and the City to celebrate and build on his successes and contributions...from a former WTNT/WOMA college student employee.

Hurley Rudd is greatly missed. I met him last year when I joined Kiwanis. I wore my late husband's WTNT jacket one day and Hurley told me how he once owned the station. Hurley remembered my late husband, Lee Bowen, and shared how much he enjoyed listening to Lee. Now he can listen to Lee all the time.

My deepest sympathies are with the family. Hurley was loved and will always be remembered.

I was saddened to hear of Mr. Rudd's death. He was a true statesman and a fine Southern Gentleman. Politically, you may not always agree with him, but you were always his friend. He truly cared about his constituants. I first met him at his Jitney-Jungle grocery store on N. Monroe Street when I was just a toddler. He made me feel special then, and some 50 years later, he still did.

My heart felt love and sympathy goes out to his family. Thank you for sharing him!

Dear Members of the Rudd Family,

I always enjoyed seeing Hurley doing his daily fitness walk as he passed my house on Lasswade Drive. If I'd be in the front yard, he'd always say "hello." Sometimes he'd stop and we'd converse. He brought me into the Usta Club. He arranged for me to speak to Kiwannis. He'd slip me a political cartoon. One I especially remember was a map of the Middle East contrasting the territory of the Arab countries with that of tiny Israel. The tongue-in-cheek caption read: Isn't it terrible that Israel controls Arab territory? Hurley loved Israel and the Jewish people. His earliest contact was with Miss Ruby Diamond, for whom he used to deliver newspapers. His beloved church, Immanuel Baptist, used to be near Temple Israel, when we were on Copeland Street. Later on, we became next door neighbors on Mahan Drive. Hurley would speak at various Temple events. He also brought up the possibility of connecting Immanuel's parking lot to Temple Israel's exit lane. The two congregations have been sharing parking space and the exit for several years, with the best of neighborly results. Hurley could tell a joke or make a humorous comment that brought laughter to many faces. I miss that man with the broad smile, orator's voice, and harmless teasing. My mornings do not have the same kick-start without our conversations.

May all who are bereaved be comforted in God's good time.

L'Shalom,

Stanley J. Garfein, his neighborhood friend and rabbi.

I met Mr. Rudd at Astro Travel, where, upon learning that my grandmother was Mrs. Jesse Ferrell, he said that she had been his 4th grade teacher. Mr Rudd related an event that occured when he first met her. He described my grandmother as being almost 2 feet shorter than him. He described himself as a grade-school troublemaker, as was his brother, John Rudd. Mr Rudd said said that he was going down some stairs, as my grandmother was going up the stairs. They made brief eye contact. As my grandmother stepped upstairs, where she was just able to look down on Mr. Rudd, she suddenly turned around, spun him around, pushed him against the wall, shoved her finger in his face, & angrily declared,"I know you, & your brother, & both of you will be my class this year, & I'm NOT going to have any trouble out of either ONE of you, DO YOU HEAR ME?" Mr. Rudd said that he was so startled, at the encounter, all he could say was, "yes maam, yes MAAM!" He laughed at the recollection, saying that he never forgot that, & expressed deep affection & respect for her. He added that neither he nor his brother, John, ever disrupted my grandmother's class. :-)

Mr. Rudd will be missed.

For Hurley's family & friends, of whom there are MANY! -- I was so sorry to hear of Hurley's death! I hadn't seen him in some time and didn't know he was ill. But he knew me, my parents (Lila & Harry Guerry), and grandparents (Wilmer & Bette Brewton). He was ever kind to me and when he was a Rep., he helped me a lot! May you be in peace, knowing he's with the Lord and that this good-bye will be forever the last! Best wishes, Betty ("Bitsy"} Willard.

I was deeply saddened and shocked to hear of Mr. Hurley's passing.

He was such a nice man, and we became really good friends while attending football games at FSU. At the basketball games, his seats were directly across from ours, so before every game, I'd go around and see him, and hopefully get some popcorn from him. Inevitably, I would wind up eating half the bag without even knowing it.

Everytime I saw him at the first of the year, at the basketball games, he always would mention how much he and his wife appreciated my Christmas card that I would send them, that had a picture of my dog, Kasey, on it. Always asked about her and the rest of my family too.

Again, he will be sorely missed.

Rest in peach, Mr. Hurley

In retrospect, I remember Mr. Rudd as being a very encouraging man to me with high morals and intregrity. When he was President of the Tallahassee 100 Club years ago, I was his secretary. Please accept my sympathy for your loss.

I am so very sadden to hear of the passing of Hurley. My deepest sympathy to all his family and friends, especially his wife, children and brother. I had the pleasure several years ago to meet Hurley, his wife and one of his sons at his brother John’s birthday gathering when I visited Hurley’s brother, James Owen. He was so personable I appreciated how he made me feel like a member of the family. I will always remember him. May God give you all strength and comfort in knowing Hurley is resting in peace.
