Jim Meeks Obituary

Jim Meeks Jim Meeks, 93, a retired maintenance technician, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, in New Brunswick, N.J. The service will be at 11 a.m. EST Saturday at St. Phillip AME Church in Tallahassee, with burial at New Hope Cemetery. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. EST Friday at Tillman Funeral Home (850-997-5553) and from 9:30 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church. A native and lifelong resident of Leon County, Mr. Meeks had lived in New Brunswick for the past few years after the passing of his wife. He was well-known, loved and respected by all who knew him. His smile and his stories, articulated to the maximum with exaggeration, were his trademarks. He was an active leader in the New Hope Pallbearers Lodge for many years. He also was a longtime member and deacon at New Hope Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and a member of the United Sons and Daughters of Joshua. Mr. Meeks was a bus driver for Leon County schools and retired from the Leon County Road Department after a long and distinguished career. He leaves to cherish his memory three children, a devoted daughter, Thelma Williams of Piscataway, N.J., Christoria Reshard of Westbury, N.Y., and a son, Clifford Meeks of Dundee; a sister, Sarah Meeks of Perry; and five sister-in-laws, Alexia Meeks, Alida Young, Mamie Young, Cleaster Young, all of Tallahassee, and Lula Wilson of Port St. Joe; a brother-in-law, Clifford Young of Tallahassee; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of more than 50 years, Earnestine Young Meeks; three sisters, Eva, Mary and Leola; and seven brothers, Arthur, Jonas, Counter, Sam, Ball, Tom and Roosevelt.
