Jimmy Charles Cummings

Jimmy Charles Cummings, 70, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away November 23, 2017. He was born to Lena Mae Cummings and Charles Victor Cummings in Quincy, Florida on August 18, 1947.

After serving in the United States Army, Jimmy enjoyed a long career in the office supply industry which began at General Office Equipment. With his friendly disposition and good-natured personality, he thrived. He considered everyone a friend, including his customers.

Jimmy was a proud member of The Leon High School "Old Guard," he had a veneration towards, and devotion to, his group of longtime friends. He served many years with the Florida High School Athletic Boosters' Association. With a love of the water, he enjoyed boating, waterskiing, scuba diving and beach trips. He had a passion for coaching girls' softball and strove to make a difference in the life of his players. When he wasn't busy diligently boiling peanuts, he could be seen picking up his grandchildren from preschool and cruising in his beloved 1979 Corvette.

He was preceded in heaven by his parents, Lena and Roy Freeman.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth "Gail" Bradley Cummings; daughters Lori Cummings Hamilton and Kelly Cummings Magill; grandchildren Landon Charles Hamilton, Mary Bradley Magill, James Patrick Magill, Jr., and Alden Elizabeth Magill; son-in-law Charles Hamilton, all of Tallahassee, Florida; sister Sandra Collins (Frank, Sr.) of Lakeland, Florida; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 1, 2017 at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home (1737 Riggins Road). The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Big Bend Hospice at www.bigbendhospice.org or 1723 Mahan Center Blvd, Tallahassee, Florida 32308.

Gail, We are so saddened to hear of Jimmy's sudden loss. We are praying for you all to have peace and comfort at this difficult time. We all go way back with you guys! Grilling, swimming, beach, boating and lots of treasured memories. He got me my first job at the state at 18. Yall came to our wedding. He came to my dad's funeral & made a point to come see me to comfort me! He was my buddy & great friend. Never lost for words, lol... Dear Gail & Family,

I'm so sorry to hear that Jimmy has passed away. I've known him and heard about you all for many years. I always knew I could count on him for assistance when I needed to order office supplies for our association. He would stop by our office, when downtown, just to say "hello" and check to see if we needed anything. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time.

No words can take away the pain and emptiness when losing a Loved one. Hughey went to heaven on May 19 this year. We miss him every minute of every day, but we are comforted knowing he loved us so much and he never missed a chance to tell us that. May God bless you all during these immediate days after Jimmy's passing and keep you wrapped in his arms as more days come and go. Remember the great times together and love each other. Jimmy has been my neighbor for 3 years. He was a nice man and always a pleasure to talk to. I loved coming home and seeing him cleaning his car because I knew I would be greeted with a friendly "hey bud". I will miss that. I will miss Jimmy.

It is such a sorrow to hear of Jimmy's passing. He was a true friend to me when I was in high school. Back in the day I would come to Tallahassee as a kid from Havana and Jimmy, a few years older and working for General Office Supply, would see me on the street on Saturdays and always say hello. He always treated me as a peer and a friend. Many years later when I returned to Tallahassee it was always a pleasure to meet Jimmy on the street with a hearty handshake. Jimmy lately became a regular at the Tallahassee Downtown Market arriving in his Corvette and taking the time to share stories with us on Saturdays. We will miss this kind friend, he brought his blessings with him wherever he traveled.

Gail, Lori and Kelli - Jimmy was the "Old Guard" type of person in that he never said anything bad about anyone. He truly loved life and everybody in his life. Even with the evil sickness he carried for the past months, he either remained upbeat or returned home to be with those that he cared for so much.

We are very sorry about Uncle Jimmy and words can't say enough about how bad we feel for this tragic loss. We love ❤ you guys and we hope you know we are here for you guys. I will always remember the wonderful times we had growing up together and all the family gatherings we had and I hate that you guys are having to go through this! I can't tell you how difficult it has been for me to accept the fact of Jimmy's passing. When I first heard about it I said this can't be true.From the days of working with him at General Office Supply to our neighborhood cookouts, to the birth of our girls Jimmy and I felt like brothers. Even after I moved away and didn't see him very often it was like you haven't missed a day when you would see or talk. He was as loyal a friend as anyone could ever want or ask for. He will leave a lasting impression on many many people and those that knew him are much better for having known him. I am so sorry that I will be unable to attend the memorial service on Friday but please know I will be there in spirit, thoughts and prayers.
