Leroy Thompson Obituary
Rev. Leroy Thompson, Jr., 80, of Tallahassee answered the Master's call on Thursday, September 28, 2017. Funeral services are 12 noon Thursday, Oct. 5, at Rockhill M.B. Church, with military honors burial in the Church Cemetery. Viewing is Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. at TILLMAN OF TALLAHASSEE 850-942-1950. A Memorial service (without the body present) with the family receiving friends will be Wed. from 6-7:30 p.m. at Trinity M.B. Church, West 4th Avenue, Tallahassee. Rev. Thompson was a U.S. Army veteran, FAMU graduate where he had been a dormitory manager and a retired Disability Claims Examiner for HRS. Now retired, he pastored Friendship, Moultrie, GA for 34 & 1/2 years; Oak Grove, Camilla, GA for 20 years and Gethsemane M.B. Church, Tallahassee for 2 & 1/2 years. His love and legacy will be treasured forever by his loving wife, Laura Stephens Thompson; son, Leonard Calloway; daughters, Althea, Renea and Winifred (Lorenzen) Thompson and Wilhelmina T. (William) Wade; sister, Daisy Johnson; brothers, Cleo and Walter Thompson; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Sis. Thompson, I want you to know that I am feeling the pain from the transition of your help meet. Rev. Thompson was a unique friend, father figure, and inspiration to my ministry. All that I am today as a disciple of Christ and pastor, I owe to your husband. Rev. Thompson took me under the wings of his tutelage and instructed me by precept and example how to preach God's Word and pastor and live daily as a decent God-fearing human being. I am already missing our myriad theological and life conversations. As you and your children weep and continue the road less traveled for our Savior and LORD, know that God will comfort and console you. I leave you with the poignant and practical words of strength from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr: "Death is not a period that ends the great sentence of life, but rather an exclamation mark that punctuates it to a loftier height." As I have been continuing the journey without my help meet, I want you to know that when the crowd dissapates, Christ Jesus will cover your soul with His peace and presence and wipe the tears from your eyes. I love you Sis. Thompson, and you and your family are forever in my prayers and thoughts. Shalom.

Reverend Thompson was our Pastor when he was at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church! We, my wife and I, were in College at Florida A&M University, Class of 1970.
A Great Man of God has passed through our midst and left the Mark Of God on so many lives, Ours included. One of His Sons In the Ministry ... "Grace & Peace"
