Leslie Aspinwall Obituary
Leslie Aspinwall of Tallahassee, Florida died in his home on Monday, August 25th, 2014. A scattering of his ashes will take place at his beloved beach house in Panama City Beach, Florida on Saturday, September 6th at 5:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an educational scholarship program of choice or to an individual college student in need of financial assistance.
Dr. Aspinwall, a native of Birmingham, Alabama, relocated to north Florida in the late 1970's. A gifted and passionate teacher, he began his lifelong career in education teaching prisoners in the Birmingham jail. While working on his Ph.D at Florida State University, Aspinwall was employed at Gulf Coast Community College as a math tutor and adjunct instructor. His first post-doctoral position was at Middle Tennessee State University in Murphreesboro, Tennessee, followed by his return to FSU in August, 2000 where he taught and mentored Ph.D candidates until 2012.
Dr. Aspinwall is survived by his sister, Betty Cook of Ormond Beach, Florida. He was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine Aspinwall, twin brother, Basil Aspinwall and father, Nolan C. Aspinwall of Birmingham and his daughter, Kelli Aspinwall of Murphreesboro.

As my own son is currently a senior in High School and is questioning his future path, I sit reflecting on those who influenced my own. I am currently in my 24th year of teaching HS Math, and can honestly say that the most influential teacher in my life was Dr. Les Aspinwall from my first year Master´s pursuits at MTSU. He was a brilliant and charismatic man who´s teachings and approach to teaching still heavily drive my methods today. So sad to hear of his passing. RIP Dr. Aspinwall knowing your legacy lives on in all of your students. We were so lucky to have known you.

Good bye, cousin. Will always remember when Liz and I came by your home in Murfreesboro to meet your family. Also, when you, your brothers and sister came to Jacksonville for a family reunion at the home of Don and Bonnie Aspinwall. Many happy and memorable times.

It is with great sadness that I learn of the passing of Les Aspinwall. He was such a great colleague at MTSU, a co-author on two research articles, and a trusted friend long after we both left MTSU. I will miss his warm smile, caring personality, and great sense of humor. I am so sorry we didn't to talk one last time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Les' two living daughters, Kasi and Keri and his five grandchildren. Kasi and Keri followed in his footsteps and both became teachers. They loved him and will always treasure their memories of him.

What a shock to read of Les' death. He was a bright conversant person who had a great personality. While I was in the same department we did not work together but I liked to bounce ideas off of him as he had a nimble mind and was always eager to help.

I was so sad to see this news. Dr. Aspinwall was one of the most inspiring professors I had at FSU. When I was thinking of quiting the math ed program, he encouraged me to continue. His methods and kindness in the classroom helped me to become the teacher I am today. His family is in my prayers.
