Many condolences to Cecile and to the Marcus family. Nancy was a wonderful mentor for faculty, and she made a difference in her work as a researcher and teacher.

I remember Nancy and Cecile walking down the street near the British Museum -- greeting me in a cheery way -- summer 2012. Also on airplanes, also on campus. Tremendous respect for Nancy's scientific mind and now, this, sadness.

How sad to hear of Nancy's passing. I had the honor and privilege of getting to know her through her service to (and collaboration with) the Council of Graduate Schools. I so admired her personality, spirit, and commitment to graduate education. She will be missed.

Nancy always brought a sense of energy and concern to every role she assumed at FSU. I remember her extraordinary commitment as Dean of Graduate Studies, working with department chairs and graduate advisors to forge a stronger bond and appreciation for graduate education at the University. Her commitment to the task at hand did not dampen her vibrant sense of humor and love of life. She was a unique individual who had great passion for her work and compassion for others.

I was shocked and saddened by the news of Nancy's passing. I am so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you all, particularly Cecile, Betty, and Teddy. Although she left this earth way too soon, she had a positive impact on so many lives, and accomplished so much more than most of us could hope for in several lifetimes. She was an amazing person. May your cherished memories help you through your grief.

I was a coordinator for a graduate program until my own retirement due to an illness in 2015. She reached out to me personally, which was in keeping with her style and grace. I have great admiration for Dr. Marcus and the way she focused on supporting all of us as we worked to make graduate education at FSU better. It always felt like she considered us

My thoughts are with the family during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there is a hope for our love ones lost in death can be reassuring.*

Cecile and the Marcus Family,
When I think of Nancy I think of a person who was loving, bright, hilarious and brilliant. She carried herself with a self-assured dignity and humility which is rare in someone so accomplished. Yet, she could play with the best of us! In addition to these incredible traits, she was kind and thoughtful, with the true gift of being able to relate to anyone at any level. Her accomplishments in Marine Biology and Administration at Florida State speak for themselves. She has left a true legacy of leadership at Florida State, in Tallahassee and through her work in professional organizations. Most noticeably, she left an imprint on the heart of most people she touched. Her passing is a loss that will be felt deeply by so many people.
And, my friend Cecile...my heart breaks for you and your loss. I hope you will lean on all those who love you so much. You and Nancy established yourselves as a true "power couple" in Tallahassee and among those around the country and world who were privileged to spend time with you both.
Sending hugs and much love, Steph Schleuder
