Ora Cooper Obituary
Ora Ward Cooper, 94, of Charles Town, West Virginia passed away on September 5, 2016 in Blountstown, Florida. She was born December 24, 1921 to James Robert (Jim Bob) Ward and Ethel Edwards Ward of Telogia, Florida. Ora graduated from Liberty County High School where she was Valedictorian of her class. She attended Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee, where she graduated with a degree in Home Economics.
Immediately upon graduation from college, she went to work as a hostess for Southern Railway in Washington, D.C. She met and married Maurice R. Cooper and resided in Arlington, Virginia for eight years. She and her husband then moved to Rion Hall Farm in Charles Town, West Virginia. She continued to operate Rion Hall Farm after her husband's death in 1966 until November 2013 when her health caused her to move to Florida to be near her family. She was a member of the Jefferson County Garden Club for over 50 years and judged at the County Fair for 50 years as well. She loved flowers and was an avid floral designer.
She is survived by a sister, Betty June Roberts of Hosford, Florida, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice R. Cooper; a sister, Pat Mattox; and four brothers, Stig Ward, Paul Ward, Claud Ward and Joe Edd Ward.
Arrangements are being made by Bevis Funeral Home in Bristol, Florida and Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town, West Virginia. Family visitation will be at 2:00 p.m. and the funeral services at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 18633 Highway 65, Hosford, Florida 32334 or Asbury United Methodist Church, 110 West North Street, Charles Town, West Virginia 25414.
