Patrick Keating Obituary

Patrick Keating

Tallahassee - Patrick Keating, a well-known, well-rounded and deeply respected Television Executive died unexpectedly on August 20st, 2018. Pat was born on April 22, 1952, to James and Shirley Keating, both deceased. During his life, he lived in New York, New Orleans and cities in south Florida, spending many of his formative years in Ft. Lauderdale before coming to Tallahassee in 1970. After graduating from FSU in 1975, Tallahassee became Patrick's home - or at least, his home base.

Pat was an avid traveler, a decent golfer, colorful storyteller, loyal friend, and a tough negotiator. He was an inspirational leader, generously sharing his knowledge and expertise with countless individuals and groups. He could spot potential in others before they saw it in themselves and he knew, instinctively, how to bring out the best in those around him. Pat could see the Big Picture and knew the importance of details. He knew how to work hard and play well and was rarely observed without a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye.

Pat will forever be remembered for his wonderfully quick and wicked sense of humor, his support of those he cared for and mentored, along with his transformational work with WFSU Public Media, with The FLORIDA Channel, the National Civic Trust and the cable television industry. He accomplished a great deal in his too-short life and was truly a brilliant and engaging human.

Pat leaves behind His Person, Erin Cleghorn, and an extended family of close friends and admiring colleagues, all mourning his passing while celebrating his significant legacy and memories of him. Those fortunate enough to have occupied space in Pat's sphere are stronger, bolder, wiser and, in many cases, simply happier for having known him.

A celebration of Pat's life is scheduled for 1:00 pm, October 6th, at Capital City Country Club, Tallahassee. Memorial donations to WFSU Public Media are encouraged and appreciated.

Patrick Keating hired me to develop and lead the Ad Sales production department at Comcast Cable in the late 80's.
They were wonderfully challenging times and as our General Manager Patrick kept everything exciting, interesting and fun. He used his great sense of humor, wit and laid back style to accomplish so much for the company and the community.
I had the privilege of woking and even playing a few rounds of golf with him.
He will fondly be remembered at Comcast back in the day as Santa Keating. (Christmas parties).
I'll always appreciate him for the opportunity he gave me.

Farewell, Friend. We will meet again.

Stunned is the only sentiment of the moment. Wow, I am shocked by this news.

Pat was one of the most charming managers I knew in the public broadcasting family. We all have known each other for years and Pat was the one you would spot first across a conference room. Affable to a fault.

T'town and all of Florida will miss his character and impact.

Rest my brother.
