Phyllis Applegate Obituary
Phyllis Applegate, 91, passed away on March 7, after a full, wonderful life. She was a longtime resident of Monticello, FL and also resided in Tallahassee, FL for the past several years. She is survived by her daughter Anne Victoria Applegate, her son Verne Linn Applegate and her sister Anna Jones Cory.
Mrs. Applegate wrote articles and interviewed various celebrities for several newspapers before teaching. She taught at the Jefferson County High School and then went on to get her PhD in Communication Arts from FSU. She then taught at The University of West Florida for several years as well as several community colleges in northern Florida.
She was a member of the Timberlane Church of Christ, The Woman's Club of Tallahassee, Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution and has a Lifetime Masters in Bridge.
Her many interests included world travelling, gardening, and reading and writing poetry. Recently, she published a book of her poems, Life and Times Amidst My Rhymes.
There will be a commemoration of her life at both the Timberlane Church of Christ and The Woman's Club of Tallahassee in April. Bevis Funeral Home (850-385-2193/ www.bevisfh.com) is assisting the family with her arrangements.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Phyllis Applegate's passing. Dr. Applegate was a teacher, mentor, advisor, confidante, and good friend to me during my undergraduate days at UWF. I shall treasure the memory of her for all of my days.

Mrs. Applegate was a sweet and gentle lady. Her knowledge of our world was remarkable. God's peace to her family.
