Samuel A. Allen Sr.

1921-2014

Samuel A. Allen, 93, born Nov. 4, 1921, to the late Sam and Aljonia Allen, in Tallahassee, FL., peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wed, Nov. 5, 2014. Bro Allen was married to the late Caroline Allen. Bro Allen began his teaching career in 1949 at Drew High, in Baker, FL, and then transferred to Carver Hill High, in Crestview, FL., where he taught math and chemistry. In 1968 he began teaching math at Richbourg Jr High, in Crestview, FL., until he retired in 1983. Sworn into the Crestview City Council on Nov. 4, 1968, Bro Allen is recognized as the first African-American elected city official in NW Florida. Along with his wife, Bro Allen was instrumental in the development and establishment of the Carver Hill Museum in Okaloosa Co. The Davidson Middle School Gym is named in his honor.

Bro Samuel A. Allen was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 59 years, Caroline; and his six siblings. He leaves to cherish his memories, one son, Samuel Allen Jr (Cassandra); and one daughter, Aljonia Porter (Herman); one sister, Lula Mae Brown; 5 grands; 15 great-grands; and one great-great-grandson, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service for Bro Samuel A. Allen will be held Sat, Nov. 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church located at 1288 Washington Ave., Baker, FL. Bro Allen will lie in repose at Lebanon for viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to service. Family visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 14, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at McKinnie Funeral Home, Crestview, FL. Interment will follow in Springhill Cemetery. Repast will be held at Carver Hill Community Center, School Ave., Crestview, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Carver Hill Memorial and Historical Society at 649 McClelland Street, Crestview, FL 32536.

I've known Mr. ALLEN over many years.He was my oldest brothers father inlaw.Always kind, joyful and full of knowledge on mostly every current and past topic. Just a joy to talk to.Will miss his presence at family functions.These are times to reflect on all his great accomplishments, but most of all his love for his family and extended FAMU Family.
