Sidney Allen Johnson

Sidney Allen Johnson died at Big Bend Hospice House on October 28, 2017 in Tallahassee, FL following a brief illness. He was 82 years old.

He was born on August 14, 1935 in Bainbridge, GA to his parents Archie and Mary Nix Johnson. After High School, he joined the US Navy and served for four years. He met Loretha Collins at a county fair in Cairo, GA. They married on May 29, 1960 and then moved to Quincy, FL where Sidney was a Police officer for the city. He was passionate about fishing with his wife, spending time with his grandchildren and sitting around with his four legged babies. He was a generous man who would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it.

Mr. Sidney is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Kevin Rogers of Bascom, FL; his son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Nina Johnson of La Vernia, TX; His grandchildren Aaron, Mary Grace and Claire Rogers and Justin, Eric and Olivia Johnson; his sisters, Carolyn Mills, Marilyn Revell, Maxine Johnson and Charlene Spears (John); his brothers Billy Johnson (Gay) and Michael Johnson; and his special nephew Taylor Chambers; and many other dear nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents Archie and Mary Nix Johnson; his wife Loretha Collins Johnson; his three little brothers Kenneth and Benny Johnson and "Baby Brother"; and his beloved dog Snoopy.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at the Washington Street Church of Christ in Quincy, FL from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of Mr. Sidney Johnson. She the baby! That is what you would say about me. Daddy died a year before I married and you walked me down the aisle and happily gave me away. Just kidding. You kept me supplied.with baby dolls while you were in the Navy. One year you sent me two. Those were the best but so we're you. So many memories come to mind when I think of you. I will miss you and your advice, wanted or not. Love, your baby sister.

A wonderful neighbor. We will miss his laugh (and his gardening advice). Thank you, Mr. Sid, for all of your stories.

Donna & Bruce, shocked to hear of your Dad's death, but oh how happy he is to be with your mama. He dearly loved Loretha. Let the many wonderful memories you have ease the sadness and warm your heart. Laugh at remembering a joke he told often. My love, thoughts and prayers are with your families as we go forward.

I can imagine him telling tales now, at the table in heaven!

Donna and Bruce: My heart goes out to you at this time. May all your memories help you at this time. God works in so many ways, To me Sydney and Caroline were always called "Cuz". Watched you two grow up and time flies by. Sydney and your Mom would indeed help anyone they could. He will be missed by those who knew him. Love to your whole family and will keep you in my prayers.
