Tallahassee - It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Sylvia Cordero on the holy day of Good Friday, April 2, 2021 in Tallahassee, Florida. At the age of 81 she quietly left us while holding the hand of her daughter and listening to Spanish ballads.

She was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Stanley and Isabel, who likely never imagined she'd someday earn her Master's degree and become a beloved Miami inner city elementary school principal, meet with a Vice President and Florida governor to discuss the challenges her students faced, or have a flag flown at the State Capitol in her honor.

Sylvia loved Miami, but in time relocated to Tallahassee and then New York to enjoy her most treasured role: Nana - always making sure that she had candy and potato chips on hand as treats for her beloved granddaughters. The harsh New York winters took a toll on her health, however, and she eventually returned to Tallahassee.

During her life she travelled the world and eventually took up painting as a retiree. This passion earned her honors at local Tallahassee art shows and her works grace homes in both Florida and New York. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, and eating out - especially steaks.

She was preceded in death by her son Horacio and is survived by her daughter Alexandra [David] and cherished granddaughters Grace, Lotti, and Eve. In light of Covid-19, no funeral services will be held, but Sylvia loved milkshakes. We hope you'll indulge in one from your favorite restaurant as your own way to celebrate the dash between the day she graced this world and the day she moved on from it. She was a remarkable woman who will be sorely missed and remembered with great love.
