Thomas McKnight Obituary

Thomas Dawson McKnight

Tallahassee - Thomas Dawson McKnight passed away January 8, 2018 from a sudden emergency in Tallahassee. Tom was 60 years old. Tom was born in Palo Alto, California and raised in Miami. He enjoyed playing baseball and scuba diving in the Florida Keys with his father and sister Cynthia, and windsurfing at the many wonderful Florida beaches. Tom served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. He studied at University Of Miami, graduated from Indiana University and Florida State University.

His keen interest in learning covered a wide spectrum - mathematics, computer science and, in particular, languages. Fluent in Russian, Spanish and a smattering of German, along with his native English, he loved talking with people about their culture and customs. Tom's involvement with the Tallahassee's Sister City program reinvigorated his interest in all things Russian. His friends and family spanned the world.

The love of his life was his young daughter, Amelia Irene, known familiarly as Irene. Tom adored Irene and was intent on helping her with all aspects of her life, including attending and volunteering at the Buddhist Center and the Hispanic worship group at Bradfordville First Baptist Church, learning the importance of love and gratefulness, visiting all the parks and festivals, preparing for mathematics competitions, writing short stories, watching and singing favorite songs together from movies old and new.

Tom is survived by his daughter, Amelia Irene, his sisters, Elizabeth Sands, Cynthia Alsabrook and Doris Gage.

A celebration of Tom's life memorial service will be held at Bradfordville First Baptist Church at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2018.

The interment of Tom's remains will be held at Tallahassee National Cemetery, 2:00 pm on Friday, January 19, 2018.

My dear Tom!Nobody would have ever expect you to part from this planet So soon, so sudden, and so strikingly overwhelming. You have been often talking about death as a part of life,You have been teaching me, that death is not the end, it's just transformed manifestation of a person departed. How much I wish I'd be able to see the light of your kindness, your peaceful nature and gentle heart close to me!But even though I don't see it with my eyes, I feel it, and I'm glad you are with me in my grief and it brings me comfort. You loved people so much, that you were taking them as they were, eagerly understanding any of their motives or circumstances to be themselves. You had the greatest courage of forgiving even those, who harmed your life badly, or those, who were unjustly cold and distant. You continue to live in all, who loved you, and we will try our utmost learning to love and to forgive, to understand and to care, to be grateful for every little thing in our daily lives just as you did; and to realize, it was an honor and a privilege to know you, to share so much good with you, and to be with you in peace and contentment. The most radiant person I have met, so he was nicknamed Sunshine. The most selfless life I have witnessed.Sleep well, dear Sunshine! You finally found peace away from the stormy oceans of life. Yours,Tanya Sesay.

Through your hearts must hold deep sadness, it also hold the memories of the life you shared. May your memories be long and your grief be brief, and may God give you strength beyond normal not only now but in the days to come.
