Victor James Heller

Victor James Heller passed away Thursday November 14, 2019 with his wife, son and daughter in law by his side at his home. After a ten-year battle with Alzheimer's he crossed over the rainbow bridge to be met by a pack of faithful dogs, family, and best friends who preceded him.

Victor was born on June 20, 1950 to Dr. David Eugene Heller and Joy Miller Heller who preceded him in death. He grew up in Stillwater, Oklahoma and was a true cowboy and Oklahoma State fan from birth. He had a closet full of orange t-shirts and cowboy boots. Victor earned his bachelors and master's degrees from Oklahoma State University in wildlife ecology. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Victor retired as the Assistant Executive Director of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. He had a passion for hunting and fishing which he enjoyed sharing with his son and his friends.

He was a member of the "Sloth" running group, a bicycler, Eagle Scout, farmer, ornithologist and wildlife biologist. He was a great camper and outdoorsman who loved to share the outdoors with others. He was a volunteer hunter safety instructor for many years. The wildlife and beauty of Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons called him back to visit every year.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years and high school sweetheart, Linda Hall Heller of The Villages, FL, his son James Robert Heller and his wife Nicole of Ocala, FL, and his sister Janet Weaver and her husband Bob of Austin, TX. His church family was also a big part of his life.

A Memorial Service will be held at his beloved Faith Presbyterian Church where he was an elder and deacon in Tallahassee, Florida on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to Faith Presbyterian Church, 2200 N. Meridian Rd., Tallahassee, FL 32303 in Victor's name.

Linda, you have lost your sweetheart and the world lost a superior man. I still think of Vic whenever his beloved Cowboys are playing and can still see Jim Bob (JR) as a child in his oversized Oklahoma State T shirt. Coach Heller and his dedication to our outstanding T-Ball team will never be forgotten. Vic will always be a very special part of my memories. I am unable attend the Memorial today, but please know you are in my heart and in prayer . Good strength to you and your family from the Mixons.

Linda and family, Vic and I were biologists together at separate Regional offices back in the old Fla. Game and Fish Comm. days. He and I talked regularly about management techniques and strategies . I always saw a man with a deliberate , kind and careful way to present a plan or discuss a topic. More than that he had a way to engage people and bring out their best. The measure of a man is his devotion to his family, friends and mostly his Faith. Vic measured high on the scale. We pray for you in this time of grief.

We were fortunate to know Vic Heller both through a personal and professional relationship. As a man, no one could stand up to his character; he was a great friend. Professionally, he was a wonderful asset to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Vic will remain a part of our memories that will always be close to us. Our deepest sympathy is extended to the Heller family, especially Linda Very few people cross paths in life and end up making an impact Vic was such a person!

I'm very sorry to here this news about Vic. He was really one of the good guys. I enjoyed my time with him working at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. It's ironic, but I remember him talking about growing up in Oklahoma, now I'm living in Oklahoma.
