Yofan, Abraham "Avi"

He had presence. A wise man once said "A man dies as he lived." Abraham "Avi" Yofan lived with courage, generosity and quiet dignity. He faced his final days in the same way, with gallant stoicism and strength. Born in Israel, Avi served his country with honor. He was a veteran of the 1956 Sinai War parachuting behind enemy lines. After immigrating to the United States, Avi built a successful lamp manufacturing business in Los Angeles from the ground up. It was not just a business, it was a way to support others. He employed many families and mentored countless individuals along the way. His generosity extended beyond the workplace. In 2006 he was honored in Clearwater as Civilian of the Year by the Fraternal Order of Police for furnishing homes for families in need through Chief Kline's C.H.I.P. initiative. (Children and Homeless Intervention Project.) Avi was a man of deep values. Whenever he saw police officers dining in restaurants, he would quietly shake their hands and thank them for their service - often by paying their bill without saying a word. That was Avi. Humble. Kind. Generous without expecting recognition. In 2009, Avi met his wife Maylisa - his partner and true love. He often said,"I didn't know what love was until I met her" and for the next sixteen years she remained by his side in joy and in hardship as he bravely battled five different cancers over eight years. Maylisa lovingly referred to him as her Chosen One. Avi was not only a Veteran, husband, father and entrepreneur, he was also a friend. A neighbor writes "One always feels a better person after being around Avi. Avi had presence." He was preceded in death by his parents, Aria and Thia and his sister, Ester. He is survived by his brother, Lior; his beloved wife, Maylisa; his sons, Adam (Kate) and Jon (Donna); his grandchildren, Chloe, Ethan , Eli, Ryan and many nieces and nephews. Avi also leaves behind many dear friends, former colleagues and neighbors whose lives were touched by his spirit. On June 6, 2025 with Maylisa gently resting her cheek near his, Avi took his last breath. Avi died as he lived with grace, courage and love.
