Ada Fletcher Obituary

FLETCHER, Ada Mae (Henkel), after a long illness, passed away, September 8, 2003, peacefully in her sleep at her Odessa, Fla. home where she resided with her daughter. She was 78 years-old. She was born in Y onkers, N.Y., on September 22, 1924 to George A. and Margaret (Langmack) Henkel. She was of the Roman Catholic faith. She was educated in Yonkers public schools, after which she attended the Cochran School o f Nursing in Yonkers, and Columbia University. She attained the rank of First Lieutenant in the US Army Nursing Corps during World War II. Prior to moving to Odessa, she resided in Yonkers, Long Island, Harr ison and Modena, N.Y. and Rapid City, S.D. She was a Registered Nurse and Nurse Manager of Education at United Hospital in Port Chester, N.Y. (Westchester County) for many years. She was a published and awar d winning poet and writer of fiction and a member of the Tampa Bay Poetry Society. She enjoyed reading, gardening and caring for her beloved cats. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and extended family. She married movie, radio and television personality, Tex Fletcher on April 27, 1945, who predeceased her in 1987. She is survived by her children, Jayne E. Steine r, Kathy A., George A. and Michael Fletcher. She was predeceased by her eldest son, Robert H. Fletcher in 1999. She is also survived by one grandchild, Justin M. Fletcher of Sahuarita, Ariz. She had no broth ers or sisters. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to LifePath Hospice of Hillsborough County, Fla., or the SPCA of your choice.
