Arthur Staveley Obituary

STAVELEY, Arthur John Born Queens, NY, April 12, 1914. Passed peacefully in the care of Gulfside Regional Hospice Feb. 29, 2008 in New Port Richey. Ret. USAF Lt. Colonel. Graduate of Army and Air Force Schools, LIU and NYU. In civilian life the "Colonel" was VP of Ross Aircraft Corp. Later serving with the Port of New york Authority, Aviation Operations at LaGuardia Airport and New York Int'l Airport. Well known in aviation circles, Colonel Staveley survived as a POW in Romania during WWII, later to fly again during the Korean Conflict. Member of VFW, American Legion, DAV, and was a "Quiet Birdman" member in excess of 50 years. Decorations and awards include the POW medal, Distinguished Flying Cross with three clusters, Purple Heart, Presidential Citations and many more. Interment with full military honors at our national Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
