Cecil Shackelford Obituary

SHACKELFORD, Cecil Lionel, retired U.S. Air Force major, 88, of Plant City, passed away January 7, 2006. Mr. Shackelford was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Lee and Mary Lillian Shackel- ford; brothers, Kelly, Elmer and Glenn; and sisters, Lavra Catherine and Reva. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Dorothy; his daughter, Susann Clendening; two grandchildren, Sherri Vogel and Sgt. Daneen Michelle Clendening; five great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica, Kimber, Kristen and Stephen; one brother, Walter; an two sisters, Betty Maske and Mary Ann Cole. His military career spanned 25 years and he went from his first enlistment in the Calvary to flying jets, which included World War II, Berlin Airlift, Korean War, flying more than 8,000 hours in B-14s, B-29s and KC-97s. After retiring, he pursued a degree in industrial arts from the University of Tampa. Then taught school at Tomlin Junior High School and Pinecrest High School. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, and past patron Easte rn Star and Shriners. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2006, and the funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. with Dr. Ron Churchill officiating. A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the South Florida Baptist Hospital Foundation.
