I was Adm. Hunters Command Master Chief on the Saratoga a great Naval officer, not everyone can do a barrel roll at 300 feet and live to talk about it. Adm (then Capt) and his lovely wife attended the reception for my wedding vow renewal while the ship was in Malta, I still cherish the photo of that occasion. I just came across this obit, my deepest respects to the family

Charlie and I were neighbors in Kings Grant, Virginia Beach about 1964-65 when I was working with the A6 Intruder for Grumman Aircraft. Charlie was still flying A4s then.
We would sit on my front step and Charlie would pick my brain about the details of the Intruder, it's capabilities and system configuration. I like to think I had something to do with Charlie going on to make such a significant impact in Naval Aviation why flying the Intruder.
When he teamed up (Crewed) with Lyle Bull the cockpit was laden with more talent and courage than words can describe.
A great friend who is still missed.

In August, 1967 my A-6 squadron on USS Constellation, VA-196, lost three aircraft on one mission. About the same time USS Forrestal suffered a major fire and had to discontinue operations, so Charlie and his B/N, Lyle Bull, were transferred to VA-196 along with three "replacement" aircraft and two other flight crews. I remember that the write-up of the mission on which they received their Navy Cross referred to them as "two tough men with two tough names." I was proud to serve with Charlie, and wish him fair winds and following seas. Skip Suereth, CAPT, USN (Ret.).

Charlie was my neighbor at Va Beach when he was still flying "Scooters" and constantly hounded me about the Intruder. His coming into the A6 program It was a monumental event for the A6 community and all those who served with him and especially those who shared his cockpit during his many brave endeavors.
