Charles MILLER Obituary

MILLER, Charles P., Sr. (Chuck), died June 4, 2015. Chuck and his twin sister Charlotte were born on June 9, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio to Fred and Marguerite Miller. His early years through high school were in Cleveland. At 19 years of age, he signed up with the Navy for a six-year enlistment and spent 33 months in the Pacific theater. During the war years, he married Dorothy Irish Miller who predeceased him. He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 52 years and his children: Patricia Cook (Jere), Peggy Fields (Rufus), Robert Miller (Doreen), Michael Miller (Judy, deceased), John Miller (Mary Pat), Timothy Miller (Gloria), Denise Reynolds (Robert), Karen Switalski (Joe), Barbara McDermott (John), Mary Beth Melcher (John), Colleen Postman (Barry), Charles Miller, Jr. (Karen), Frederick Miller (Jodi), and David Miller (deceased). After the war years, Chuck worked in the insurance business in Watertown, New York for five years. He then moved his family to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. For the next 40 years, he worked for Meekins, Inc. in the quarry, concrete and concrete block business in south and central Florida. In recent years, he's been associated with Miller's Central Air, Inc. in Lake Placid, Florida. He has 29 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He founded the St. Vincent de Paul conference in Fort Lauderdale in 1955 and again founded the St. Vincent de Paul conference in St. James parish in 1991. Over the years, Chuck's greatest loves have been his wife and family, his love for his church, and his love for the Navy, as evidenced by his many home-made ship models, all built to scale and representing many man-hours as a labor of love. Funeral services and military honors will be at St. James Catholic Church, 3380 Placid View Dr. Lake Placid, FL 33852 on Tues-day, June 9, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you send donations to the St. Vincent de Paul at St. James parish in Lake Placid and/or Good Shepherd Hospice, 1110 Hammock Rd., Sebring Florida. Rick, he will always be remembered as a fine and caring man. I am so grateful for his friendship and he gave me the opportunity to prove myself in 2003 and I am where I am today because of him. May the Lord bless him and guide you all through this difficult time.
