Duane Houtz Obituary

Houtz, Duane T.

of Clearwater, FL. peacefully passed away in his sleep on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at the amazing age of 92.

He was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Helen Talbott and Dudley W. Houtz. He was preceded in death by his only brother, Dr. Dudley Houtz Jr., and his wife of 52 years, Margaret. After surviving the traumatic loss of his lifelong partner wife, he once again found true happiness with Nancy Hughes.

Duane was a graduate of the University of Kansas and Washington University. He was a pilot in the Air Force before finding his cherished career as a hospital administrator. He began at Orlando Regional Medical Center, followed by Shands Hospital at the University of Florida, and Baptist Hospital Montclair in Birmingham, and Ochsner Foundation in New Orleans. Ultimately, he began the final chapter of his career at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater. His entry in Who's Who in America lists all his numerous offices and commendations including the outstanding alumni recognition from the graduate school at Washington University.

He is survived by his daughter, Jamie; son, Erik; two granddaughters, Courtney and Ashley; and great grandchildren, Riley, Tristan, Saige and Addison. Duane also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who adored him and his thirst for knowledge. May his memory be a blessing as we shall all miss him.

The family is holding a private Celebration of Life in Georgia where his life and love will be acknowledged. Ultimately, he will be forever remembered in the heavens with his name in the official Registry of the Stars (coordinates RE:4h52m3.61s DEC: +5°37"43.1").

It was his desire that, upon his passing, anyone wishing to make honorary donations, please consider the Morton Plant-Mease Foundation at mpmf.org.

Mr. Houtz was a true gentleman and the kind of person who after his retirement helped the Morton Plant Hospital in many ways. He was so helpful in planning the 100th Anniversary celebrations for the hospital. Wishing his family comfort, grace and peace!

Mr.Houtz was the president of Morton Plant Hospital when I started in 1979 in the payroll department. Mr. Houtz would speak with all team members by name as he walked the halls! Mr.Houtz was always pleasant to team members and everyone at Morton Plant Hospital at the same time being firm with hospital policy.
I will always remember Mr. Houtz! I wish the family peace in the memories of Duane T. Houtz!
