I´m sorry to hear of Earl´s passing. He was a great teaching professional at Onondaga for many years. Many golfers from all over the Syracuse area came to Earl for lessons, especially younger players, some of whom became leading amateurs in our area. He was also an excellent player himself.
As good as Earl was at teaching and playing golf, he was an even better friend. I had the privilege of playing with Earl countless times during his years at Onondaga. He and I always played each other for $1 so it was always about who had bragging rights. When playing against him you had to get him down early to have a chance to win because he was a great front runner, constantly needling you if he was up in the match. He was a great person and one of a kind in a very good way.

In 1986 I prayed and asked the Lord for help in my next club to work at to enjoy my PGA career. My father was at lunch with a friend who was a golf sales representative in central NY, and he told my father that Earl was looking for an assistant, so I called Earl and was hired over the phone. Worked for him three years then he left Onondaga and the membership board had me take the head professional position for thirty years which I thoroughly enjoyed. Sorry to hear of his recent death.
