I had the opportunity to interview Betty several times for various articles. What a lady! I was also able to work with her during the Strawberry Festival for many years - She was a wonderful example of a community servant, and will be sorely missed! But I have no doubt she's just as much of a servant in heaven as she was here in Plant City!

DEAR MAMA B,
WORDS CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH I WILL MISS SEEING YOU!!!!!I FIRST MET YOU DURING THE SUMMER OF 1970 WHEN I ATTENDED VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL AT FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH HERE IN PLANT CITY. ALL OF THE CHILDREN ASSEMBLED IN THE SANCTUARY EACH MORNING BEFORE SPLITTING UP INTO DIFFERENT CLASSROOMS. I WAS 8 YEARS OLD THAT SUMMER AND UPON ENTERING THE SANCTUARY I WAS OVERWHELMED!!!IT LOOKED LIKE TAMPA STADIUM. THE FIRST THING I SAW WAS THIS LADY AT THE LECTERN WEARING AN INDIAN HEADDRESS. THIS LADY TOLD US THE STORY OF "RICKI-TIKI-TIMBO". WE HAD NEVER HEARD OF SUCH. BY THE END OF THE WEEK, ALL US KIDS KNEW THE STORY. I AM NOW 45 YEARS OLD AND TO THIS DAY I CAN SAY:RICKI TIKI TIMBO,NO SO RIMBO,ALA BALA BOOSKI,HIP RE PIMBO. YOU MADE SUCH AN IMPACT ON SO MANY CHILDREN'S LIVES .YOU WILL NEVER KNOW JUST HOW MUCH YOU WERE LOVED AND ADMIRED. UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN. CANDY OWENS PLANT CITY, FL

Ma B Now really is your "Personal Best". To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. We are all better because of Christ in you.

Ma B I miss your smile, you drive, your encouraging words. I will miss you and the ray of sunshine that followed you everywhere you went. I know that all of those wonderful qualities live on through your family and all the lives you have touched. Your love for the Lord and your commitment to him gives me peace as I am sure it gives your family peace knowing that we will all be reunited once again.

Sent with deepest sympathy to the extended Chambers family:

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay. I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above. Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight. Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night. That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through, God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; your're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.

But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb; but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain, then you can say to God at night...."My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile, knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low, just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind; I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go...from that body to be free, remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Sent with lots of love to all of you!!!

Ms Betty Chambers will be remembered for so many things but for me I will never attend or volunteer at the FL Strawberry Festival without remembering her. Her every effort in that arena was like a well oiled machine functioning with well defined purpose and precision. Miss Betty will truly be missed and our heartfelt grief to all her family and friends.

Though I only knew the lovely, and lively, Mrs. Chambers a short time (through the YMCA), I experienced something very special and awesome about her. Her loving and caring ways were obvious from our first Hello. It's now hard to say Good bye to this beautiful person, but know she's being welcomed with open arms into Heaven. I feel thankful for having known her, even for a short time.

I remember growing up in the First Baptist Church, and Plant City as a whole, and one of my fondest and greatest memories is Miss Betty. She was wonderful, loved and respected and will be missed. To her family, please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you, but find peace in knowing that she is with God and we will all see her again. What a blessed day that will be!

Betty Chambers was and will continue to be a true blessing to me and my family. Betty always treated all of the Purvis children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as though we were members of her own family. We will always be grateful to her for her friendship, caring and support of our father, Ted. We will truly miss you, Betty. God bless. Love, Shirley Susich

Mrs. Betty's legacy will live on in our hearts. As a former employee of the YMCA she was a faithful happy go lucky member who no matter what her age could show up a younger person at Zumba!!! Plant city has lost a true gem but heaven just got a little richer. My thoughts and prayers to Mark & Lori and the entire family.

I'm so sad to hear that Miss Betty has left us! She made an indelible mark on so many lives. I'll always remember her generous spirit, fun-loving attitude, wonderful cooking, and boundless energy. She truly lived her life to the fullest for the Lord, using all of her amazing gifts and talents to love & serve others. What an incredible inspiration for the rest of us! Sherrie, my love goes out to you and all the family at this difficult time.

God saw you were getting tired, and a cure was not to be; so he put His arms around you, and whispered, "Come with me." With tearful eyes we watched you suffer, and saw you fade away;
Although we loved you deeply, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest; God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the Best!

She was a very special Lady. She will be missed by her family, our family and the community. Our family has loved and enjoyed knowing the Chambers (all the family) since my father, Dr. W.G. Meriwether, and Dr. Frank Chambers were partners and our families were in the same neighborhood. God Bless her, the celebration of her of life, to her family and the whole community at the lose of a wonder lady. I can not find the words to express my true feelings at her passing.
