Erik WEKERLE Obituary
age 45, of Indian Rocks Beach, FL, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday evening, November 21, 2017 in Largo, FL. Erik will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his mother, Donna Anderson, Sun City Center, FL; his father, John Wekerle, Camillus, NY; sister, Lynne Wekerle Steiger and her husband, John, and their children, Erik's nephew, Nathan, nieces, Ingrid and Merrill; and his loving com- panion of 14 years, Randi Baillie along with their pet turtle, Austin, Indian Rocks Beach, FL. Erik was born in Syosset, NY, spent his childhood in Sherman, CT, attended the University of Kentucky, and worked for the past 15 years at Tech Data in Clearwater, FL. He was also was a devoted volunteer of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and this year was awarded The President's Volunteer Service Award. Memorial Service to be held at the US Coast Guard Station, Sand Key, 1375 Gulf Blvd., Clearwater Beach, FL 33767, Wednesday, November 29, 2017. Ceremony at sea will depart from the station at noon (limited space available) and a gathering of family and friends will follow at 1:30 pm.

Dear Erik, You have been gone for 5 years, and I miss you so much. You were the best son I could have ever asked for, even though you were a challenge at times. I miss our "date nights": going to the Iron Maiden concert, hockey games, the beach, and lunch. I enjoyed time spent with you.

Hi Clerik, mom and I went to the Georgia Aquarium and it made me think about the video you once showed me of it that you took. I got to go to that very spot. It was beautiful Clerik. I love that you loved the sea and its animals, I am beginning to as well. I love you :) see you someday

Erik was our U.S.C.G. Flotilla Commander who conducted our meetings and had to put up with all the personnel issues. He also spent the time to get qualified as a radio operator at C.G. Station Sand Key in Clearwater where he had to answer distress calls and keep track of the C.G. vessels underway. Always very friendly and supportive. We will miss him immensely.

We met Erik in the Auxiliary and became friends through our Flotilla. We are deeply saddened by this unexpected loss! What a remarkable young man he was! Our deepest and heartfelt sadness at the loss of this wonderful young man. Erik was everything, kind, loving and gave of himself to help others. I was able to share time with Erik through his close relationship with our son, Steve. We would like to extend our sympathies to Randi and the Wekerle family. I have sat near Erik for eight years at work, and he was great to work with. He always walked in with a smile and was quick to lend a hand if needed. He also turned my son onto one of his favorite sports and my son is now passionate about a sport, when he never was before. Erik was a great guy, and he will be missed.
